Linus Sebastian, the creator of Linus Tech Tips, recently shared that his channel has made approximately $26 million from YouTube ads throughout its history, according to Google AdSense data.
For over ten years, Linus Tech Tips (LTT) has been a major tech channel on YouTube, consistently creating in-depth, lengthy videos during its most successful period.
Sebastian discussed the business’s revenue and expenses in an interview with YouTube John Yoshaei.
How much Linus makes from YouTube
Yoshaei asked if he could reveal how much money their YouTube channel has made from ads, and Linus agreed. The total currently stands at around $26 million – that’s all the ad revenue LTT videos have earned through Google’s AdSense program since the channel began.
While the amount seems significant, Linus pointed out that their expenses are also high – particularly when it comes to employee salaries, which have already exceeded this figure.
He explained that the $26 million figure includes all ad revenue earned through YouTube over time, and doesn’t include money from sponsorships or other parts of Linus Media Group’s business.
AdSense contributes only around 10% of the company’s revenue. Most of their income actually comes from things like their main products, branded video content, and sponsorships.
Sebastian also explained how much the channel used to earn during its most successful month. He said LTT once got around 60 million views, and with ad revenue at about $2 to $2.50 per 1,000 views, they made roughly $120,000 to $150,000 just from their longer videos.
As a long-time fan, it’s interesting to remember how things used to be! Sebastian pointed out that these numbers are from before YouTube started letting creators earn money from Shorts and made other changes to how monetization worked. Back then, Linus Tech Tips made almost all of its money from regular, longer videos – Shorts weren’t really a factor in their income at all.
