Ben Stiller Calls Paul Dano ‘Brilliant’ After Quentin Tarantino Diss

Quentin Tarantino recently criticized Paul Dano’s performance in There Will Be Blood, unintentionally sparking a wave of support from other Hollywood stars. On a podcast, Tarantino called Dano’s acting a significant weakness in the film and suggested he was the least effective actor in the Screen Actors Guild. However, many directors disagree. Ben Stiller, a DGA Award winner, publicly praised Dano on X (formerly Twitter), calling him “brilliant,” especially having directed him in the 2018 mini-series Escape from Dannemora. Shortly after, Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, also chimed in, calling Dano both a talented actor and a wonderful person. Showing her support, actress Maya Rudolph shared a photo of Dano from There Will Be Blood on Instagram. Even Marvel actor Simu Liu joined the chorus, calling Dano an “incredible” actor.

Comedians Zach Woods and Alec Baldwin both publicly defended actor Paul Dano in short video posts on Instagram. Woods jokingly said that ‘weird-looking white boys’ need to support each other, and directly criticized Quentin Tarantino. Baldwin simply expressed his affection for Dano, telling anyone who disagreed to be quiet.
