With the 40th anniversary of the movie Clue approaching, fans of the popular board game have a lot to look forward to. While the 1985 film Clue is still beloved, a new series is in development that will offer a fresh take on the classic game.
Peacock is developing a new hourlong series based on the classic game Clue. The show will be written and executive produced by Dana Fox (known for Wicked: For Good) and directed and executive produced by Nicholas Stoller (Platonic, You’re Cordially Invited).
A new TV series based on the popular murder mystery game is in the works. Last October, the show was pitched to various streaming services and television networks, and Peacock ended up acquiring the rights.
The show Clue will update the classic characters with a modern feel. According to Deadline, the series follows a group of strangers invited to a billionaire’s murder mystery party where they must solve the questions of who, where, and with what. However, they soon realize everything is not as it appears, and the consequences are far more serious than they imagined.
Fox is the writer and showrunner for the new series, while Stoller will direct. They will both serve as executive producers alongside Gabriel Marano from Hasbro Entertainment, Margy Love from Fox’s Foxy, Inc., and Conor Welch from Stoller Global Solutions. Stoller recently renewed his overall deal with Sony TV, continuing his relationship with the studio for around a decade. Fox also has an overall deal with Sony and is currently developing an American adaptation of the Israeli comedy series, Save the Date.
It’s Been 40 Years since Clue Was in Theaters
I recently watched this fantastic movie set in the 1950s, and it immediately grabbed my attention! It begins with six people, all strangers, being invited to a really isolated mansion. As soon as they arrive, the butler, played brilliantly by Tim Curry, starts calling everyone by funny nicknames. The whole time, these guests are trying to work out why they’re there, and it quickly becomes clear that their host, Mr. Body, has something on all of them – they’re all being blackmailed!
I’ve been a fan of Clue for years! It first came out way back in 1949, and it’s amazing to think over 150 million copies have been sold! I love that the movie and the game both feature the same classic characters: Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlett, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, and Colonel Mustard. The whole point of the game is figuring out who did it with what weapon, and where the crime happened – it’s such a fun mystery!
The new Clue series does not yet have a premiere date, but it will stream on Peacock.
