Scarlett Johansson Drops Out of 2 Movies Because of The Batman 2 Casting

Because Scarlett Johansson is now set to appear in The Batman 2, she will no longer be involved in two previously planned film projects.

Scarlett Johansson is joining the cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, the sequel to The Batman, which is currently scheduled for release in 2027. Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne. While details are scarce, some believe Johansson might play a romantic interest for Bruce Wayne who could also be a villain, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

What movies won’t Scarlett Johansson star in because of The Batman 2?

Because of her filming commitments for The Batman 2 and a new Exorcist movie—both scheduled for 2026—Johansson has had to cancel her involvement in two other projects.

According to entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider, Scarlett Johansson will not be starring as Mother Gothel in the upcoming live-action remake of Tangled. She was previously in talks for the role last October, and the project is moving forward again after a temporary halt in development. Michael Gracey, known for directing The Greatest Showman and Better Man, is directing the film.

Scarlett Johansson has also withdrawn from the independent film Featherwood. She was originally cast as a heroin addict turned FBI informant in the true-crime thriller, which Andrea Arnold was set to direct. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Arnold’s departure from the project last September was a key factor in Johansson’s decision to leave, as she was particularly excited about working with the director.

Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for the live-action remake of Tangled or the film Leatherwood. However, The Batman Part II, a sequel co-written by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is scheduled to be released in US theaters on October 1, 2027.
