At the start of the new year, a highly acclaimed crime thriller, considered by many to be the best of the 21st century, will no longer be available on the streaming service. While the platform currently boasts popular content, one standout movie will be removed in 2026.
Okay, movie fans, heads up! One of my all-time favorite thrillers, Collateral – you know, the 2004 Michael Mann film with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx – is leaving Netflix on January 1st, 2026. It’s got a fantastic cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Jada Pinkett Smith, Javier Bardem, Peter Berg, and Bruce McGill. If you haven’t seen it, or want to rewatch, you’ve got a little while, but don’t wait too long to stream Collateral before it’s gone!
What Is Collateral About?
Jamie Foxx plays Max, a Los Angeles taxi driver, and Tom Cruise is his passenger, Vincent. Vincent offers Max a lot of money to drive him all over the city. Unbeknownst to Max, Vincent is a dangerous hitman, and Max ends up driving him to various assassination jobs.
Critics and audiences alike are loving Collateral. The film has earned high scores – 86% from critics and 84% from viewers – on Rotten Tomatoes, and is officially “Certified Fresh,” meaning it’s highly recommended.
What’s interesting about Collateral is that Tom Cruise often plays the hero, but he’s also willing to take on villainous roles. He’s done this before, like when he played the scheming Frank T.J. Mackey in Magnolia (1999) and the vampire Lestat in Interview with the Vampire (1994).
Movies Leaving Netflix in January 2026
I was really bummed to hear that Collateral isn’t the only great movie leaving Netflix in January 2026! A ton of titles are going, and I’m going to miss a lot of them. They’re taking off Agatha Christie’s Crooked House, Dirty Dancing, Doctor Sleep, Hacksaw Ridge, Mad Max: Fury Road, Robin Hood, Scarface, and a whole bunch of other films. I need to watch them before they’re gone!
Every month, streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, and Peacock constantly update their movie and TV show selections. New titles are added, while others become unavailable. This is necessary to make room for the new content and also because of agreements about how long shows and movies can be streamed.
