At the start of Octopath Traveler II, you can give your character a Crested Key as one of their starting ‘Belongings’. This key, marked with a dagger symbol, is actually one of eight hidden throughout the game – each representing a different weapon type. Finding these keys unlocks a major, ongoing quest. It’s similar to how you can also find a Letter Fragment early on, which begins another long-term goal.
If you find a Crested Key (or any similar item), a new quest called “An Encounter with Viator” will become available in the town of Valore. Completing this quest will allow you to add Viator, a wandering character, to your team. He’ll mention his goal of collecting all the Crested Keys to locate The Eight Sacred Treasures.
Editor’s Note: If you do not pick the Crested Key as a Belonging when you create your character, I assume the key will become available later as you build back up the Town of Wishvale. You earn a reward for completing the Workshop, Hub, and Church, and I assume it would be one of those rewards. I cannot verify this directly, however, since I picked the Crested Key as a Belonging.
Once you’ve gotten the Queen Orsa boat by completing the main quest ‘The Rings Sealed Away’, a new side quest called ‘The Eight Sacred Treasures’ will become available. This quest is designed for level 60 players, but you can start it earlier if you like. It sends you to the ‘Isle of Heroes Past’ in the Outersea, where you can use Crested Keys to find the Eight Sacred Treasures. Before you can claim your rewards, though, you’ll have to defeat a powerful boss called ‘Warbringer’s Phantom’, so you might need to wait until you’re stronger to complete it.
After defeating Warbringer’s Phantom, you can find eight powerful, unique weapons – one of each type – if you have the Crested Key. Here’s a list of where to find all eight Crested Keys.
These weapons aren’t the strongest in the game, but they’re still good to have and worth getting for your characters.
