Leonardo DiCaprio has confirmed he’s joining the sequel to the classic 1995 crime film, Heat. Directed by Michael Mann, Heat 2 will continue the story from the original movie and will feature both familiar and new faces.
Leonardo DiCaprio recently told Deadline that Heat 2 is still in development, and that he and the team are actively working on it. While filming hasn’t started yet, the project appears to be progressing well and will be based on the sequel to the original novel. DiCaprio didn’t share any details about the cast, but it seems previous rumors about who will star are likely to be true.
This project is a completely original story, though we’re still in early development and haven’t started filming yet. It’s inspired by the movie Heat, acting as a continuation of that story. Since the source material is already public, I’m not revealing any secrets. The story jumps between the future and the past, beginning with the iconic moment from what I consider the best crime film ever made. Heat is a truly influential movie – it’s constantly referenced, copied, and has shaped countless other films. We’re definitely making progress, and I see this as a separate entity. We’re not trying to recreate Heat; we’re honoring it while creating something entirely new and unique.
Michael Mann is confirmed to direct Heat 2, and Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to star. Reports suggest Adam Driver, Austin Butler, and Al Pacino are also in talks to join the cast, with Christian Bale now potentially taking on a significant role. If these actors all sign on, Heat 2 could boast an incredibly impressive lineup. Given that the film will jump between different time periods and generations, it makes sense to bring together established stars like DiCaprio and Pacino with newer talents like Driver and Butler.
