People in China are bringing their dogs to see the new movie Zootopia 2! Cinemas are holding special showings just for pets and their owners, and videos of these events are becoming hugely popular online.
Okay, so this is pretty awesome! Apparently, some cinemas in China are letting people bring their dogs to watch movies with them. I’ve been seeing videos online of all these pups chilling next to their owners while they watch Zootopia 2 – it’s seriously the cutest thing ever. Wish we had that here!
Although these early screenings aren’t happening everywhere, they’ve built excitement for the sequel and created an interesting buzz around its release.
Cinemas in China offer pet-friendly viewings of Zootopia 2
The videos getting the most attention online show people lifting their pets up for the movie, using their phone flashlights to create a concert-like atmosphere. Other popular videos feature dogs sitting quietly with their owners, completely focused on the screen.
It’s amazing to see people in China taking their dogs to the movies to watch Zootopia! You don’t often see that in the US – it’s usually just service dogs that are allowed inside. 🐶 🐾

This is actually not the first time pets have joined their owners at such occasions, though.
In 2023, one of China’s largest movie theater chains, Wanda Cinema, started offering special screenings for people to bring their pets. Owners were required to show proof of their pet’s vaccinations, and theaters thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the auditoriums after each pet-friendly showing.
I remember hearing about something really cool that year – they started letting dog owners bring their pups to see a movie! It was the Chinese remake of Hachiko, you know, the incredibly sad but heartwarming story about the loyal dog who kept waiting for his owner even after he was gone. It was such a sweet idea, a real ‘doggy movie date’!
Zootopia premiered in the U.S. on November 26th and rapidly gained popularity internationally, earning $556 million worldwide during its opening weekend. This made it the fourth-highest-grossing global debut ever.
