Supergirl’s Matthias Schoenaerts Convicted, Gets 6 Months Prison Sentence

Matthias Schoenaerts, known for his role in Supergirl, has received a six-month jail sentence. The news has brought increased focus to the upcoming film, especially as details are still being kept secret.

Supergirl’s Matthias Schoenaerts gets prison sentence and driving ban

Actor Matthias Schoenaerts, 47, has been sentenced to six months in jail, a €4,000 fine, and a year-long driving ban after being convicted of driving without a valid license. The sentencing occurred while Schoenaerts was not present in court.

VRTNWS reports that actor Matthias Schoenaerts was arrested last week in Pelt for allegedly refusing a breathalyzer test. However, the recent conviction he received is unrelated to that arrest.

Okay, so I just read this – apparently, Matthias Schoenaerts was pulled over twice in April 2024 in Pelt, Belgium while riding his motorcycle, and it turns out he didn’t have a valid license. It gets a bit more serious though: back in 2021, he was banned from driving in Antwerp because of drug use while driving. To get his license back, he was supposed to go through some recovery programs and retake his driving tests, but he never completed them. Pretty unfortunate situation, honestly.

The actor has had several traffic violations in the past. As part of his sentence for the latest incident, he’s required to retake all of his driving tests. While he received a six-month prison sentence, it won’t be enforced right away, and he has the option to appeal the decision. This latest trouble came to light just a week before the sentencing.

Matthias Schoenaerts will play Krem of the Yellow Hills in the upcoming DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. DC Studios has not yet addressed a prior legal conviction involving Schoenaerts.

He’s also appeared in several highly praised films, including Amsterdam, A Hidden Life, and Rust and Bone, among others.
