James Gunn Just Shut Down A Major Man Of Tomorrow Casting Rumor

James Gunn, who is both writing and directing the next Superman movie, quickly dismissed a significant casting rumor.

According to a recent tweet from the DC Film News fan account, James Gunn quickly dismissed the rumor that Steve Trevor from Wonder Woman would appear in Man of Tomorrow with a simple “Nope.”

I first met Steve Trevor way back in one of Wonder Woman’s earliest stories! He actually appeared alongside her in All-Star Comics #8 in 1942, in a story called “Introducing Wonder Woman.” He was a US Air Force pilot who ended up crashing on Paradise Island, and Wonder Woman was the one who saved him. He’s been a big part of Wonder Woman’s history ever since, and honestly, he’s become a DC Comics legend himself!

The sequel to Superman, starring David Corenswet, currently titled Man of Tomorrow, is expected in theaters in 2027. The film will bring back many of the original cast members, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., for another action-packed story.

The DC Universe Continues To Grow

Joel McHale, who plays Rick Flag Sr., recently discussed his future projects, including his role in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow. He mentioned his character will be significant to the story, but didn’t reveal specific plot details. However, he indicated the new series will likely continue the storyline from Season 2 of Peacemaker, with Rick Flag Sr. playing a more prominent part.

Besides Man of Tomorrow, Superman will also lead to another DC Universe production, currently slated for release on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, based on the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the film will follow Alcock’s Supergirl on a unique and expansive cosmic adventure, different from anything seen in the DCU so far.

Adding to the excitement, Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda were announced as directors in early November. The new series will again star Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and will focus on the everyday lives and work of the people behind the Daily Planet. The first season is expected to feature Gorilla Grodd as the primary villain, potentially opening up new possibilities within the DC Universe.

Man of Tomorrow releases on Jul. 9., 2027.
