Knives Out Gets Parodied By Sesame Street In An A+ Video, And I’m Loving The Benoit Blanc-Esque Muppet

As a huge movie fan, I have to say, the internet sometimes delivers pure gold. And today? It’s this incredible Sesame Street parody of Knives Out! They’ve created a Muppet detective named Beignet Blanc, and honestly, it’s as clever and fun as you’d imagine. It’s both witty and goofy, but still feels like a really affectionate nod to Rian Johnson’s whole Knives Out world. I just had to share because it’s brilliant!

Netflix posted a fun clip on X (formerly Twitter) that perfectly shows how Muppets always make things more entertaining. The video introduces Beignet Blanc, a Muppet character, in a Sesame Street mystery called “FORKS OUT.” As soon as you see it, you’ll realize this is going to be something truly special!

The funny video, called “Forks Out,” is like a mini, kid-friendly version of the movie Knives Out. It starts with Cookie Monster being shocked to find his triple berry pie completely gone. Oscar’s sardine pie is also still full, which means something isn’t right. Then comes Beignet Blanc, who looks and sounds a lot like the detective Benoit Blanc, and is determined to solve the mystery of the missing pie.

Blanc carefully rules out potential suspects, dismissing Cookie Monster for being too chaotic, Oscar the Grouch for boasting about his sardine pie, and even mentioning the director Rian Johnson. Though Grover earnestly attempts to solve the mystery, Blanc consistently stays ahead. True to a classic detective story, the solution is surprisingly simple and makes perfect sense—a twist reminiscent of a pastry-themed Murder on the Orient Express.

Rian Johnson Has Thoughts on a Muppets + Benoit Blanc Crossover

Fans have been hoping for a big team-up: detective Benoit Blanc solving a mystery with the Muppets in a full-length movie. Director Rian Johnson has said this wouldn’t really fit, since Benoit Blanc investigates murders, and the Muppets generally avoid that kind of storyline. However, this recent short film offers a clever workaround.

This charming mystery, featuring a puppet detective who bears a striking resemblance to Daniel Craig, perfectly blends the worlds of Knives Out and The Muppets without disrupting either franchise. It’s a fun, clever story that families can enjoy together, packed with affectionate references to the Knives Out films. The creator of the Knives Out series is even open to more crossovers, suggesting that putting Detective Blanc in a Muppets movie would be a blast. Let’s make it happen!

Ultimately, “Forks Out” perfectly captures the fun, unpredictable energy that makes both the Muppets and the movie Knives Out so beloved. While a full crossover between the two might not happen, I’d happily watch more of these short, delightful mysteries from Sesame Street (available with a Netflix subscription).

As a huge Muppet fan, I’m seriously excited about what’s happening over there! Seth Rogen is working on a new Muppet Show special for Disney+, which is awesome, and get this – Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are going to be in a movie all about Miss Piggy, written by Cole Escola! It’s a little tough still that Muppets Mayhem got cancelled, and honestly, nothing will quite fill that hole until something really special comes along.

Hopefully, Rian Johnson’s current projects will be successful enough that Disney asks him to direct a new, large-scale Muppet movie. And a clever way to include his detective character, Benoit Blanc, would be to have a Muppet watching a Knives Out film in the background – it would fit perfectly into the Muppet universe!

Moviegoers can currently see the newest installment in the mystery series, Wake Up Dead Man, in cinemas, with the film becoming available on Netflix starting December 12th.
