Just in case you missed it, Stranger Things 5 is currently the biggest show on streaming. When it was released at the end of November, it almost overloaded Netflix – even though the company had already increased its server capacity by 30% to prepare for the huge number of viewers tuning in for the new season.
The first four chapters of Volume 1 were excellent, and Maya Hawke is quickly becoming a standout star. With her mother, Uma Thurman, gearing up for the release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair in December, and her father, Ethan Hawke, enjoying success with Black Phone 2, Maya is gaining a huge following from Stranger Things fans – a popularity that’s now extending into the world of superhero movies.
The idea has become popular enough that fans have started creating artwork imagining her as Batgirl, even going so far as to picture Ethan Hawke as Commissioner Gordon alongside her.
Once you see something truly perfect, it’s hard to forget. Joking aside, this image is remarkably well-executed and doesn’t rely on excessive or distracting AI effects. James and Barbara Gordon look incredibly realistic. And if Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day can draw inspiration from other sources, why shouldn’t DC Comics consider casting a star from Stranger Things?
Batgirl is Trapped In Her DCU Cave
The cancellation of the completed Batgirl movie is a major issue for its future, and possibly for any similar projects from James Gunn and DC Studios. The decision has upset those involved, with at least one co-star urging fans to demand its release, and Oscar winner Brendan Fraser recently expressing his disappointment in an interview.
It was a huge production, filmed across four floors in Glasgow, and I was constantly visiting the art department just to see everything. It’s really sad that there aren’t many strong female characters for young girls to identify with. Seeing Michael Keaton return as Batman was amazing! But things have gotten to the point where it’s more profitable to simply scrap projects and collect the insurance money than to actually release them. Honestly, the industry seems determined to destroy itself.
Things aren’t looking good for Barbara Gordon right now, but fans are hoping that will improve soon. Until then, those eager to see her in the DC Universe or a standalone story can only try to persuade James Gunn and Warner Bros. Discovery to bring her back into action, as she’s facing a difficult situation in Gotham.
