The Netflix documentary “Sean Combs: The Reckoning” is now available, and Diddy has responded by calling it a biased and unlawful “hit piece.” He claims the series is both unfair and illegal.
The Reckoning, a four-part documentary series produced by 50 Cent and directed by Alexandria Stapleton, details the life story of Sean Combs. Here’s what the series is about, according to its official description:
“Sean Combs: The Reckoning” takes a deep look at the life of Sean Combs, the famous music producer and businessman, including his legal troubles. The documentary features new interviews and previously unseen footage, revealing the story of how he built his successful career and the hidden, darker side of his world.
All four parts of the documentary were released today, December 2, 2025, and Combs has since responded to the filmmakers.
Diddy claims Sean Combs: The Reckoning is full of “stolen footage”
According to a statement released through his representative, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs calls the Netflix documentary a damaging and inaccurate portrayal. The statement highlights that a preview released on Good Morning America shows Netflix used footage without permission. Combs has been collecting his own footage since he was 19 to document his life story, and his team argues it’s both unfair and illegal for Netflix to use his work without authorization.
Honestly, as a fan, it really bothers me that Netflix is using footage like this. It seems like they’re taking things out of context, and even using private conversations he had with his lawyers – stuff that was never meant to be seen by the public! It feels like a real violation of privacy, and it definitely makes you question their motives. They claim to care about the truth, but this feels anything but truthful. Plus, it sounds like they never even had the rights to share this material in the first place.
Variety contacted Netflix for a statement, and director Alexandria Stapleton confirmed they legally obtained the footage and have the rights to use it. She explained they made significant efforts to protect the filmmaker’s identity, noting that Sean Combs has consistently filmed himself for decades. They also repeatedly tried to get a response from Combs’ lawyers, but did not receive one.
Diddy also criticized Netflix for letting 50 Cent produce the film, arguing that 50 Cent is a longtime rival who has repeatedly made false and damaging statements about him.
This situation goes beyond just legal concerns; it’s a deep personal betrayal. Mr. Combs has always held Ted Sarandos in high regard and admired Clarence Avant’s life and work. He feels deeply hurt and disrespected that Netflix would entrust his story to someone who has consistently attacked him for years. He at least expected to be treated fairly by people he respected.
The new documentary about Sean Combs, “The Reckoning,” is now available on Netflix. You can find more documentaries currently streaming this month here.
