Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the first part of Stranger Things season 5! The new season premiered on November 26th and fans are already eager to find out what happens next. Recent photos taken on the set might reveal the fate of two characters whose storylines are still uncertain.
Photos circulating on X show Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) from Stranger Things having a serious conversation in town.
Fans are excited about new photos showing Hopper in his police chief uniform, believing they’re from season 5 of Stranger Things. The movie playing in the background, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, was released in 1989 – a significant clue, as season 5 is set in 1991.
Until season 3, Hopper always appeared in his police uniform, before he was imprisoned in Russia. Given what happened in the first part of the latest season, it seems unlikely he’ll be back as sheriff anytime soon. During his conversation with Hopper, Mike looks very sad and worried, suggesting that someone he cares about may be seriously injured or even killed.
Even with pictures from the set circulating, it’s still unclear which characters will make it through the dangerous events unfolding in Hawkins. If a main character dies, it would be a first for the show, as previous major deaths – like those of Billy and Bob – involved characters who weren’t core members of the Hawkins team.
Viewers thought a major character, Hopper, died at the end of season 3. It seemed like he’d been completely destroyed, but it turned out he was actually captured and imprisoned, forcing him to figure out a way to escape.

If the recent images are accurate, it seems very likely that Hopper and Mike will make it through the events of Stranger Things season 5 and survive Vecna’s evil plans for Hawkins. We saw in Volume 1, episode 4, “Sorcerer,” that Mike’s friend Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) discovered he has powers and was able to save his friends from demogorgons.
The Duffer Brothers, the creators of the show, have been secretive about the main events of season 5. However, in an interview with Deadline, they revealed that the second part of the season will explore Vecna’s past, the origins of the Upside Down, and the reasons Vecna initially targeted Will and Holly.
The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the final episode of the series will be available on December 31st.
