That show was truly excellent, standing out not only among fantasy and supernatural series, but as a great television show overall. While it’s difficult to choose a best episode, the latest Slayer has named one as a favorite.
A revival of the popular show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, is in the works. Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Buffy, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong will star as a new young slayer. Armstrong recently shared with TVLine that she’s been watching the original series and has already picked a favorite episode.
The interview mainly focused on her current TV show, co-starring Ethan Hawke. As expected, she was also asked about the planned revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Armstrong explained she wasn’t able to share details until sometime next year, a statement she’d made in previous interviews as well.
She really misses Sarah. “Just being around her is so sweet, and I miss working with her,” Armstrong said fondly. She playfully added that Sarah is a true legend, and it’s wonderful to see how dedicated she is – something fans will surely appreciate.
Armstrong said she’s familiar with the original series, having watched it both as a child and again recently with her siblings. She described it as an “amazing show with incredible writing.”
When asked which episode was her favorite, she found it difficult to choose, but eventually mentioned Season 5’s “The Body.” She explained that while it’s a sad episode, it stood out to her, though she reiterated how amazing the entire series is and highly recommended that anyone who hasn’t seen the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer should.
As a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I always find it interesting to compare the highest-rated episodes. “The Body” actually shares the top spot with two other incredibly unique installments: the musical episode, “Once More, with Feeling,” and the completely silent episode, “Hush.” They all scored a perfect 9.7 out of 10 from viewers, but what’s fascinating is that the number of votes each episode received is what sets them apart.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Clarified If Buffy the Vampire Slayer Is Required Viewing
I’m getting some interesting details about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, and it sounds like it’s more than just a continuation of the original. Chloé Zhao – yes, the Chloé Zhao – is directing and producing, and while many are calling it a sequel, the lead actress herself clarified that Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale will be…
Gellar said the show is designed to appeal to longtime fans, with plenty of hidden references for them to discover, just like in the original series. But they also hope to attract new viewers who may not be familiar with it.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale is expected to premiere in 2026 on Hulu.
