The Reacher series is getting a new creative leader, and this person already knows Lee Child – the author who created the books – very well.
Lee Child, the author of thirty Reacher books and one short story collection, is retiring from all involvement with the Reacher franchise—including the popular Prime Video series—and passing creative control to his brother, Andrew Child.
Lee Child, age 71, recently stated, “It’s all his now,” referring to the new author taking over the Reacher book series (as reported by USA Today and highlighted by Collider).
You might know the name Lee Child, but I’ve been digging into the Reacher novels and discovered his brother, Andrew Child, is a huge part of the success too! He’s actually co-written six of the books, starting with The Sentinel back in 2020, and most recently, Exit Strategy, which just came out in 2025. It’s cool to see the family collaboration behind this series.
Although all the books list the older sibling as the author, the younger sibling actually wrote two of them independently, with Exit Strategy being the second one they authored alone.
Andrew explained that the transition of writing the Reacher books between him and his brother should be seamless, emphasizing that maintaining the spirit of their famous series is more important than who actually writes it.
As a film and book fan, what we really aimed for with this adaptation was a smooth transition for audiences. Honestly, we felt the author’s name wasn’t the key thing here. It’s all about Jack Reacher himself! We want people to be excited to pick up the next Reacher story, regardless of who actually wrote it – whether it’s Lee Child, Andrew Child, or someone else. It’s the character that needs to be front and center.
The Prime Video series Reacher has brought Lee Child’s character to a wider audience, and Alan Ritchson is perfectly cast as the strong, intelligent, and determined hero from the novels.
The character Reacher was initially brought to the movies with Tom Cruise in the lead role, a casting choice that sparked debate among fans. The two films together earned $377 million around the world.
Season 4 of Reacher will be based on the novel Gone Tomorrow, which is the 13th book in the series and was published in 2009. It’s currently unknown which book will be used for a potential season 5, if the show is renewed.
Alan Ritchson recently told ScreenRant that season 4 of Reacher will feature plenty of intense fight scenes, but unlike some action shows, each fight will meaningfully contribute to the story and develop the characters.
The star said they’ve had more fights this season than ever before, but it’s all been worth it. They added that they expect things to be really enjoyable going forward.
The world of Prime Video’s Reacher is growing! Frances Neagley, Jack Reacher’s colleague who dislikes physical contact, will star in her own series, with Maria Sten reprising her role as Neagley.
Shooting on Neagley season 1 wrapped in June 2025, with a release expected some time in 2026.
Season 4 of Reacher finished filming in November and will be available to stream on Prime Video in 2026.
