The popular Netflix series Stranger Things has released the first part of its final season. The actors and showrunners are now sharing details about what fans can expect in the second part and the very last episodes.
In the fifth season of Stranger Things, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) is still set on transforming Hawkins, Indiana. But this time, he’s no longer focusing on teenagers. Instead, he’s going after much younger children, a tactic similar to how he originally kidnapped Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) – then just 11 years old – back in 1983.
In Stranger Things season 5, episode 2, Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) learns more about Vecna by discovering details about his past as Henry. Her sudden disappearance makes viewers wonder about Vecna’s connection to Will and hints at a more complex plan. The story may be influenced by Holly’s beloved book, A Wrinkle in Time, which could offer clues to understanding the villain’s motives.
In a recent interview with Deadline, actor Bower explained that his goal for the second part of Stranger Things was to create a consistently suspenseful and frightening experience for viewers. He noted that the first part of the season is lighter in tone, designed to build up to the much darker events that unfold later.
I want the audience to be on the edge of their seats, desperately wanting things not to happen – that’s the reaction I’m aiming for, especially with what I have planned. Volume 1 feels like a deliberate build-up, setting the stage for the more dramatic events in Volume 2 and the final conclusion.
Matt Duffer, one of the creators of Stranger Things, has revealed that Holly will play a more significant part in the final season, shedding light on mysteries surrounding The Upside Down. He explained that as the season progresses, particularly in its second volume, viewers will begin to understand why Will was originally kidnapped and how that event connects to Holly and the larger story, ultimately bringing everything together.
Ross Duffer, one of the creators of Stranger Things, says the second part of the current season will explain a lot more about the show’s mysteries. He hinted that Dimension X – which was first seen in the prequel play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow – will be directly connected to The Upside Down, Vecna, and the Mind Flayer.
That explanation really comes into focus in Volume 2, where we fully explore the Upside Down and reveal what it is. This has been part of the plan for ten years, and now feels like the right time to share it.
Schnapp shared more information about the surprising reveal that his character, Will, has magical abilities. He explained that Will’s powers are comparable to Eleven’s, but also unique in their own way.
Initially, the plan was for this ability to function similarly to Eleven’s, but as the scripts for Volume 2 developed, it became clear it worked differently. We focused on making that distinction visually clear through the character’s physical movements.
The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25, 2025, with the final episodes arriving on December 31, 2025.
