The newest episode of Pluribus starts slowly but builds to a significant event that might be linked to a famous science fiction story from the 1970s.
Okay, so Carol Sturka really ruffled the hive mind’s feathers at the end of Pluribus Episode 4. They were so annoyed they basically ghosted her! That means in Episode 5, I mostly watched her flying around all by herself, doing her own thing.
Despite everything, Carol hasn’t given up on saving everyone. She makes a video to share her discoveries about the virus with the rest of the immune system.
Sturka’s investigation continues, leading to a major discovery with potentially significant repercussions. Be warned: spoilers follow…
Carol makes a major discovery

While going through the garbage, Carol discovered a large pile of old milk cartons, similar to the ones used at the hospital where Zosia is a patient.
However, the figures don’t seem to be drinking milk; instead, as Pluribus writer Graham Smith points out, they’re drinking a strange orange liquid from the containers.
Carol discovers a large facility filled with produce and items tightly wrapped in plastic. When she looks beneath the wrapping, what she sees initially confuses her, then shocks and horrifies her, finally causing her to gasp in surprise.
The episode concludes with a hint of a major revelation, leaving viewers to wonder what it all means. It seems the collective intelligence has been deceiving everyone, and Pluribus is hiding a shocking secret…
What is Soylent Green?
Soylent Green, a thrilling science fiction film released in 1973, was directed by Richard Fleischer. It’s based on the novel ‘Make Room! Make Room!’ by Harry Harrison.
The movie takes place in 2022, a future where the world is overpopulated and resources are scarce. Most people rely on a single, mass-produced food provided by the government, known as ‘Soylent Green’.
In the film, Charlton Heston stars as Frank Thorn, a New York City detective investigating the murder of an influential businessman. His investigation leads him to a large-scale conspiracy linking the city’s powerful leaders to the Soylent Corporation.
The film’s shocking twist is that the miracle food is actually made from deceased people, leading to Charlton Heston’s famous last line: “Soylent Green is people!”
How the movie might connect to Pluribus

We’re not sure what Carol saw under the sheet, but it was definitely disturbing. The fact that ‘the Others’ are hiding the drink in milk cartons shows they don’t want anyone to know about it.
According to the collective consciousness, the hive mind doesn’t commit murder, so the fluid isn’t from a killing spree. However, a massive number of people died when the virus first appeared, and even more perished during Carol’s outburst, leaving countless bodies scattered across the world.
Perhaps they drink people as a way to protect the environment, effectively using bodies as an eco-friendly form of waste disposal.
If these creatures are relying on human blood to survive, it raises a disturbing question: what will they do when there are no more people left to take it from?
We’ve got more on the Pluribus storyline, including a creepy detail about its central intelligence, and an explanation of why you shouldn’t expect a major plot twist. Plus, Vince Gilligan discusses what makes this show different from popular zombie and post-apocalyptic series like The Walking Dead and The Last of Us.
