Stranger Things Season 5 just ripped off this fan-favorite Christmas movie

Stranger Things is known for taking inspiration from 80s films, and the latest season heavily borrowed from a truly iconic Christmas movie – and it worked brilliantly.

It’s been over three years since viewers last saw Hawkins, and fans are eager to learn what happened after the battle with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) damaged the connection between our world and the Upside Down.

With the release of Stranger Things Season 5 – which actually caused Netflix to temporarily go down! – the villain’s scheme is proving to be incredibly complex and appears to be drawing ideas from the novel A Wrinkle in Time.

Stranger Things Season 5 doesn’t just take inspiration from science fiction; one scene in Episode 3 directly copies a famous moment from a beloved Christmas movie.

Stranger Things did Home Alone, but with a Demogorgon

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, are known for including nods to 1980s films. In a recent episode, the show cleverly reimagined the plot of Home Alone, but replaced the bumbling burglars with a terrifying Demogorgon.

Okay, so in Episode 3, “The Turnbow Trap,” things get really intense! Will starts having these visions, and we realize Vecna is going after another kid – Derek, who’s in Holly Wheeler’s class. It’s super scary! Luckily, the gang comes up with a plan to track the Demogorgon using the Upside Down, and they get some awesome tech help from Murray, which is a lifesaver. It’s a race against time to save Derek!

The Hawkins group tricked the family into leaving, then quickly transformed their home into a dangerous trap for the Demogorgon. When the monster appeared, they sprang their plan: Lucas doused it in gasoline, it was pierced by nails on a wooden board, and then fell into a tangle of barbed wire. Nancy shot it with a special tracker, and Jonathan finished the job by setting it on fire. It was a truly wild and intense showdown!

The dangers in Stranger Things are similar to the elaborate traps Kevin McCallister sets for the burglars in Home Alone, but with a real monster and much deadlier consequences. While Stranger Things is significantly more intense than the Home Alone sequel Macaulay Culkin imagined, Kevin would have likely been a good fit with the group in Hawkins.
