The game isn’t about traditional alliances anymore; it’s become a series of smaller voting groups constantly working against each other. A strong player is quietly dismantling these groups one by one, and surprisingly, that player is Sophie, who flew under the radar for the first few weeks. However, everyone is threatened by Rizgod, who’s trying to take credit for everything and seems to be playing a flashy, attention-seeking game. Even though he didn’t do much this episode, he’s still managing to present himself as a hero to the jury.
Okay, let me break down this episode. Right off the bat, Sage is sharing information about Kristina’s idol – first with Jawan, then with Sophie. And honestly, Steven made a huge mistake by telling Sage to do that, hoping to build trust. It immediately brought to mind a brilliant point Sandra Diaz-Twine made – and I wish more Americans could see her gameplay, Jeff Probst seems hesitant to show it! – that an idol everyone knows about is basically useless. The more people are aware of it, the more it becomes a point of negotiation, or even just a shield someone can ‘waste’ to survive a vote. It can stall things, sure, but it loses its power to actively help someone advance their game. Think about how Parvati Shallow flipped the script with multiple idols – that’s how you use them to really shake things up, not just survive another Tribal Council.
Kristina is really struggling after her friend Alex was voted off the show. She’s finding it hard to trust anyone and feels uncomfortable with the game. This frustration boiled over during a reward challenge when Jeff asked how she was doing. She quickly went through a range of emotions, openly expressing her sadness and longing for her mother, who passed away a few years ago. It was a very emotional moment, and she shared some touching stories about her mom. Despite her distress, Kristina pushed herself to complete the challenge – a difficult balance beam course – hoping to help her team win. Although Jeff offered her some rare encouragement, her efforts weren’t enough, and her team didn’t succeed.
The team of Soph, Sophie, Sage, and Steven won and will be going to The Sanctuary (their motto is, “Where schmood schmings schmappen!!”) for hamburgers and hot dogs. Sage will also be able to put her plan into action with Sophie to try and eliminate Savannah from the game. Heading into the immunity challenge, the players have divided into two groups. Rizo, Soph, and Savannah want to work with Jawan and Sage to get rid of Steven, believing he’s a strong competitor and too well-liked due to his constant space trivia. However, Sage has a different strategy. She intends to team up with Jawan, Steven, Kristina, and Sophie to eliminate Savannah, whom she dislikes and fears will win immunity again.
Okay, so before the immunity challenge, they throw in this… interlude with this ‘boy band’ called 3 Boyz on a Bench. Honestly, it’s just the remaining guys pretending to rap, mostly repeating their name over and over to a beat. It’s pretty silly! But I gotta admit, their song titles are amazing. “Don’t Blindside Me Baby,” “You Drive Me Coconuts,” and “I Got Sand in All the Wrong Places”? Genius. I’m not sure I’d actually listen to the songs, but the titles are gold.
The immunity challenge was a traditional obstacle course. Players had to navigate a wobbly tunnel (nicknamed after Jeff’s college days), collect discs from a pole, unlock a handle, and then use that handle to carry puzzle pieces across a balance beam. Finally, they had to assemble the iconic Survivor logo puzzle. Steven excelled at balancing the puzzle pieces, but Sophie ultimately won the challenge. However, this win could be a disadvantage for her, as it makes her a strong player others might target for elimination.
Watching Survivor reminds me of Law & Order – the first person you suspect is rarely the culprit. Similarly, the initial plan discussed after the immunity challenge isn’t usually the one that actually sends someone home. Right now, everyone’s talking about Steven and Savannah, but Steven and Kristina are secretly plotting to use her idol to protect him. Their strategy is to split votes between Savannah and Rizo, hoping that if Rizo feels threatened, he’ll play his idol, guaranteeing one of them gets eliminated. Sage, meanwhile, has a complex plan to send Savannah home, get Rizo to play his idol, and have Kristina play hers. However, she’s likely to only achieve one of those goals.
Sophie isn’t reliable, especially in the eyes of Sage and her allies. She told Savannah that Jawan and Sage might switch sides, and that Kristina has a hidden immunity idol. However, if Sophie sides with Rizo and Savannah, they’ll only have four votes, resulting in a tie. As news of the idol spreads, Sophie thinks about using her special power to steal it. Meanwhile, Savannah lets everyone know she has an extra vote, meaning she and Sophie could become the majority if they work together, avoiding a tie.
Okay, so Savannah had a really smart idea! Instead of worrying about Steven or Kristina and their potential hidden immunity idols, she wanted to target Sage and Jawan – the people who were all over the place with their alliances. Savannah really wants Sage gone because she knows Sage is coming after her and figures Sage is the one actually pulling all the strings. They talked to Sophie, hoping she’d make the final decision as the swing vote. Sophie thought Jawan might be the easier target because people like him more, but she still wanted to get rid of Steven, worried he’s a bigger threat in challenges.
As Tribal Council approaches, things are really unpredictable. We don’t know who will play their advantages, how those advantages will change the vote, or even who might be unexpectedly eliminated. However, we do have a clear understanding of the alliances, betrayals, and motivations driving everyone’s actions. It’s likely Jeff Probst will get the chaotic, advantage-filled Tribal he enjoys, with players revealing everything they’ve been holding onto to survive. Honestly, what worries me most is the possibility of another live Tribal Council – I really dislike when players have to leave their seats and whisper votes.
Thankfully, the show avoids a lot of predictable drama, and most of the pre-vote tension just feels like players hinting they don’t trust each other. But things really kick off once the votes are counted. Kristina played a huge move, pulling a hidden immunity idol right out of her hair to save Steven! Then Rizo, who’d been fiddling with beads all episode, asked Jeff if he could speak. He gave a speech about needing to know who his true allies were, and then surprisingly announced he was voting for Savannah – a total game changer! It was a wild Tribal Council, and honestly, I was on the edge of my seat.
Jeff then dropped a bomb: the idol wasn’t real. Seriously! He’d gone through all that just to mess with everyone, flaunt his knowledge, and show off how he wanted to play the game. He knew they were planning for Savannah, but felt secure enough that he didn’t even need the idol. He was essentially taunting them with what he knew. As Jawan, who was about to be voted out, wisely said, “Play the real idol!”
The votes were tallied, and for a moment, I thought Sage was going to be eliminated. But then Savannah and Jawan received a lot of votes, sending Jawan home and proving Kristina’s hidden immunity idol was useless. Jawan wanted to know who voted against him, and Sophie, Soph, Rizo, and Savannah all admitted they did. However, what happened next was the real shock. Rizo stood up and asked Jawan for a hug, explaining that Jawan had betrayed him before and he wouldn’t let it happen again. This is a huge red flag for everyone on his team. Rizo wasn’t involved in this decision; Sophie provided the information, and Savannah and Sophie decided to target Sage and Jawan. Rizo pretended to play an idol, created a dramatic moment, and then emphasized that he wouldn’t be betrayed again – not “we.” He’s clearly trying to take all the credit, and I’m hoping Sophie’s manipulation of the alliances will eventually turn everyone against him.
