A well-known actor has joined the cast of the hit Netflix series Wednesday for an important role. Wednesday is a reimagining of The Addams Family, focusing on the character of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega. The show premiered in November 2022 and quickly became a popular success. After releasing Season 2 in two parts – August and September 2025 – Netflix has confirmed a third season and added another talented actor to the cast.
According to Deadline, Eva Green will play Ophelia Frump, Wednesday Addams’ aunt and Morticia’s sister (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones). The show hinted at Ophelia’s backstory in Season 1 – she was sent to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital by their mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), due to her psychic powers. Though thought to have escaped, the Season 1 finale revealed Hester has been secretly holding Ophelia captive, where she’s obsessively writing threats against Wednesday. Viewers only saw the back of Ophelia’s head in the final scene.
Expanding The Family in ‘Wednesday’

Ophelia Frump first appeared in the original Addams Family comics created by Charles Addams. Unlike Morticia, Ophelia is usually depicted as blonde and optimistic. However, the recent series Wednesday is giving her a more complex and darker personality. She was previously played by Carolyn Jones – who also played Morticia – in the classic live-action Addams Family series, using a blonde wig for the role. In other adaptations, like the 1991 and 2019 versions, she’s generally been a minor or supporting character.
Eva Green is widely recognized for playing Vesper Lynd in the James Bond film Casino Royale. She’s also appeared in several other popular movies, including 300: Rise of an Empire, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and The Golden Compass. On television, she’s known for her role as Vanessa Ives in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful, as well as for playing Morgan le Fay in the series Camelot. More recently, she’s starred in The Luminaries and AppleTV+’s Liaison.
This Wednesday marks Eva Green’s fourth project with director Tim Burton, who is also an executive producer on the show. They first worked together on the movie Dark Shadows, where Green played the villainous witch, Angelique Bouchard. She then starred in Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and most recently appeared in his 2019 film, Dumbo. While there’s no news yet on when Season 3 of Wednesday will start filming or be released on Netflix, fans are hoping the wait won’t be as long as the almost three years between Seasons 1 and 2.
