Microsoft and Asus have released an update for the ROG Ally and Ally X handhelds that improves how games are automatically set up. The update focuses on creating default profiles for each game, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently on the device without requiring users to manually adjust settings.
Xbox recently showcased how default game profiles will improve battery life on the ROG Ally handheld, using Hollow Knight: Silksong as an example. Enabling this new setting after an update is expected to add almost an hour of playtime – while still maintaining smooth 120fps graphics. This feature is now available in preview with 40 supported games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The Xbox handheld update also includes faster loading times for your game library and more responsive gamepad controls after you sign in. Microsoft and Asus have hinted at future improvements, like making the device wake up more reliably and adding AI-powered technology to automatically improve image quality. Plus, starting next week, you’ll be able to see a notification confirming that your game saves are syncing to the cloud, so you can continue playing on another device.

- If the game falls short of its target FPS, the game profile is designed to boost power to help reach the target FPS, trading a bit of battery life for a smoother gameplay experience.
- If a game is performing above the target FPS, the game profile is designed to limit FPS at the target rate to save power.
