Good news for fans! Ubisoft didn’t take it down this time, and it’s official: FX has ordered a TV series based on Far Cry. The show is being developed by Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo and Alien: Earth, along with Rob McElhenney – known for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mythic Quest, and Welcome to Wrexham. And true to form, Rob isn’t just producing – he’s also going to star in the series!
Far Cry TV adaptation is happening
Ubisoft has confirmed the show will continue a key tradition of the Far Cry games: constantly changing things up. Each season of the series will take place in a brand new location, which is fitting for a franchise that’s never revisited the same setting. Noah Hawley noted this approach aligns with his work on Fargo, as Far Cry regularly explores different themes and environments.
Let’s talk about Rob now. While Mac is confirmed to star in and produce the show, we don’t yet know what character he’ll play – previous Far Cry games haven’t featured returning characters. Like Noah Hawley’s other shows, his role could change each season. It would be exciting to see him play a new, unpredictable character each time, though I personally hope he gets a significant role with plenty of screen time.

Rob Mac has worked with Ubisoft before, notably on the show Mythic Quest (which was sadly canceled after four seasons). For that show, Ubisoft Film & Television acted as an executive producer, assisting with the game’s design, providing artwork, and offering expertise on game development.
Details are still scarce, likely because the deal is just now official. We don’t know when the release date will be, who else will be in the cast, or where they’ll film. However, one thing is certain: fans are finally getting a good Far Cry adaptation – a vast improvement over the poorly received 2008 film, which many would prefer to forget.
