Tim Allen has announced he’s finished recording his lines for Toy Story 5. He’s been the voice of Buzz Lightyear since the first Toy Story movie in 1995. While Chris Evans voiced the character in the 2022 film Lightyear, Allen’s voice is most associated with Buzz, as he’s also voiced him in various Toy Story video games and other projects.
A fifth Toy Story movie is officially happening! Announced in 2023, the film will bring back familiar voices like Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, and Joan Cusack, who reprise their roles as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Jessie. It’s scheduled for release on June 19, 2026, and is expected to be a major summer event for Disney. Tim Allen recently finished recording his lines and shared on X how grateful he is to be part of the popular Toy Story series.
I finished recording my lines for Toy Story 5 on Friday. It was a really emotional experience. I have a lot of love for the people who made the film and the story itself, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it for so long.
The next Toy Story movie will feature a new challenge for Woody and Buzz: a tablet-like device called LilyPad that’s capturing kids’ attention. Actress Greta Lee, known for her roles in Tron: Ares, Past Lives, and The Morning Show, will voice LilyPad. But fans are still wondering how Woody has returned after the events of the previous film.
‘Toy Story 5’ Has Questions To Answer
The announcement of Toy Story 5 surprised many viewers, especially since Toy Story 4 felt like a satisfying conclusion to the series. Fans felt similarly after Toy Story 3, which seemed like a perfect ending to the story of growing up and letting go. Director Andrew Stanton is aware that some fans might be hesitant about another sequel, and he recently explained that the previous films only marked the end of Andy’s relationship with the toys. Stanton emphasized that the Toy Story universe is built on accepting change and allowing the characters to evolve, just as the toys have adapted to new situations in each film. Toy Story 5 aims to continue this tradition with the introduction of LilyPad and a new chapter for the beloved characters.
For me, ‘Toy Story 3’ really felt like the end of an era – the end of the movies about Andy, and that’s okay. It gave us a perfect trilogy, and honestly, if someone just wants to stop there, that’s totally fine! But what I’ve always loved about the ‘Toy Story’ universe is that it doesn’t shy away from the fact that time moves on and things change. It doesn’t try to freeze things in a perfect moment; it embraces the natural flow of life, and that’s really special.
A big question fans have about the upcoming Toy Story 5 is how Woody returns after choosing to stay with Bo Peep as a ‘lost toy’ in Toy Story 4. The trailer shows Woody back with Buzz and the gang, and the movie will pick up the story after their reunion. While the trailer doesn’t explain how he rejoined them, director Andrew Stanton has assured fans that the movie will reveal the details.
