Escape From Tarkov: Falling Skies Quest Guide

Tarkov is a city full of secrets, and while many remain unsolved, the ‘Falling Skies’ quest in Escape From Tarkov lets you investigate the story behind a private jet that crashed in the Priozersk Natural Reserve.

The ‘Falling Skies’ questline was added with the game’s 1.0 update. While it’s new content, experienced Tarkov players will find the tasks similar to others: you’ll be sent to different locations to collect items and deliver them to traders. The biggest challenge is simply locating those items, and this guide will help you do just that.

As you progress through this quest, you’ll be faced with decisions that impact how the game ends. Take your time and carefully consider your choices before selecting dialogue options.

How to Unlock the Falling Skies Quest

To start the Falling Skies quest, you’ll need to locate a crashed private jet hidden somewhere in the Woods area. If you’ve already done the Mechanic’s Introduction quest (which unlocks Jaeger), you’ll recognize the location. Be prepared to visit this crash site often, as you’ll be returning multiple times to gather items.

The plane crashed in the eastern part of the area, located between the Old Sawmill and the EMERCOM camp. The best way to reach the crash site is to come from the Old Sawmill, approaching from the northeast.

Follow the ridgeline indicated by the two rocks (shown as a blue line on the map) heading southwest. You’ll come to an opening in the trees where you’ll see a large crashed airplane. The area damaged by the crash is highlighted in orange on the map.

If you’re coming from any direction other than the main road, be careful of fallen trees – the plane hit a lot of them when it crashed.

Ask the Traders About the Fallen Plane

Okay, so next I need to start asking around for info. Let me tell you, the traders in Tarkov aren’t exactly handing out favors. I’m expecting to do a lot of annoying side quests just to get the answers I need. Basically, get ready for some thankless work!

Okay, so Prapor told me about a flash drive with some important info. Apparently, it’s linked to TerraGroup and is hidden in one of their G-Wagons – those black SUVs they used to haul people and troops all over Tarkov. The tricky part? There are tons of these things scattered around the maps, so finding the right one is going to be a real pain.

If you’re looking for reliable information, speak with Therapist. She mentioned a contact who can help, but it will cost $2000. To earn that money, you’ll need to complete tasks in Skier’s questline so you can trade with Peacekeeper. He’s buying weapons, weapon modifications, body armor, and data storage devices – things you can sell for dollars.

If you’d rather not spend $2000 for a single clue, I’m happy to share the information with you for free.

Retrieve the Flash Drive

You can find the USB drive on the southwest side of the Shoreline map, right beside the Collapsed Tunnel exit.

The paper maps for Shoreline in the game are designed with north pointing downwards. I’ve flipped the map so north is at the top, allowing you to use the compass as intended.

This location is easy to find since it’s right on the beach. Simply walk west along the shore until you reach the end of the map. Look for a small fishing islet – the USB drive is located just beyond it.

The Collapsed Tunnel is home to a few scavengers and lots of wrecked vehicles – you’ll find ambulances and fire trucks there, but the main thing you’re looking for is the black G-Wagon.

The USB drive is lying on the left side of the car, by the driver’s door.

If the Collapsed Tunnel is open, use it to leave. Otherwise, head north towards the swamp and exit through the Path to Lighthouse. Be careful of players waiting to ambush you on your left as you leave.

Find and Stash the Flight Recorder

So, after checking out that USB drive, Prapor wants me to find the plane’s black box. Apparently, it’s the best way to figure out what went wrong with the crash. But it’s not like I’m handing it over to him directly – things are a little more complicated than that, it seems!

Prapor has arranged for Elektronik, a tech specialist, to decode the flight recorder. Your task is to collect it and deliver it to the designated location on the Shoreline map.

Finding the Flight Recorder

Good news – the plane’s flight recorder is still close to where it crashed. Just go to the Woods and retrieve it from the wreckage.

The flight recorder is on the ground, beneath a split in the plane’s body. Retrieve it, take it out of its casing, and prepare for travel to Shoreline.

Where to Stash the Flight Recorder

Make sure you still have the recorder in your inventory. Then, go to Shoreline and head to the southwest part of the map. You’ll find the drop-off location at an abandoned fishing cabin on the small island near the Collapsed Tunnel extraction point.

Cross the ship that’s stuck on the shore – it’s like a bridge. After you clear out any scavengers, go inside the cabin on the right.

After entering, turn left and then right. You’ll find a room open to the ocean. When you see the message ‘PLACE’, press the ‘F’ key to store the item, then you can exit.

Find the Materials for Prapor

Once Eleketronik retrieves the flight recorder, you’ll hit a snag: he lacks the tools to read the data, and Prapor won’t lend them to you because his equipment is already allocated.

Naturally, the task falls to you to locate the following items in raid:

  • 2 toolsets
  • 3 rechargeable batteries
  • 5 printed circuit boards

If you have your Level 1 Workbench set up in your hideout, you can craft the toolsets and PCBs there.

Find the Flight Crew Transcript and Secure Flash Drive

Okay, so I figured out something about delivering stuff to Prapor. After you hand over the materials, he tells you to wait, and it feels like forever – at least a full 24 hours, honestly. The annoying thing is, the game doesn’t always tell you when the wait is up, so you have to check back with him to see if he’s ready, which is a bit of a pain!

To see if you’re able to proceed with the quest, go to the Tasks section and choose ‘Falling Skies’. Then, check if you see these objectives listed there.

  • Hand over the flight crew’s transcript to Prapor
  • Hand over Elektronik’s secure flash drive to Prapor

You can find both items at the Chairman’s House on the Shoreline map. This house stands alone in the northwest part of the map, close to the swamp village and the Path to Lighthouse exit.

When you go inside, head to the room on the left. You’ll find the flight crew’s transcript hidden under an old, moldy mattress on the floor.

The secure flash drive is located in the far right corner of the room, resting on the small stand that has a cracked plate on it.

After you’ve collected both items, you can safely run to Path to Lighthouse for a quick extract.

Retrieve the Armored Case

The final item needed for the Falling Skies mission is a reinforced case that was being transported on the plane before it crashed in Tarkov.

Prapor believes the missing item fell from the plane somewhere in the Woods, but it’s actually hidden safely behind the cockpit. You won’t need to search the map for it!

Okay, so I headed over to the Woods map and went back to the plane for one last look. I climbed up the stairs and checked the floor right behind where the pilots sit. That’s where I found it – a case hidden under some dust and stuff. I grabbed it, and now I know I’m about to have to make a big decision!

Should You Give the Armored Case to Prapor?

When you talk to Prapor about the armored case, you’ll have three options. You can give him the case, tell him you’re holding onto it, or pretend you never found it.

Completing tasks for Prapor earns you a million roubles and maintains your positive relationship with him. However, your next assignment will come from the enigmatic Mr. Kerman.

Holding onto the case will decrease your reputation with Prapor, making it difficult to buy Soviet and Russian military equipment until you regain his trust.
