Stranger Things Creators Confirms End of an Era

After nine years on the air since its 2016 debut, the show is nearing its end. But because it’s become so popular, the story will continue in other forms.

Season 5 will begin streaming on November 26th with the first part of a longer release. The initial four episodes will return the story to Hawkins and finally provide answers fans have been anticipating. While the world of Stranger Things will continue with an animated spin-off, the creators have shared that this final season also marks the end of an era.

The Duffer Brothers are switching from Netflix to Paramount Pictures, but they’ve assured fans that Stranger Things isn’t over. While they’re not sharing details yet, their future projects will be quite different from what they’ve done before.

Ross Duffer hinted that they plan to try some new things, but also suggested that the core storytelling approach that defines Stranger Things will likely remain consistent in future projects.

He explained that they’re moving away from the 1980s as a setting for their work, at least for the foreseeable future. He stated plainly, “Whatever we do next won’t be set in the ’80s. We’ve finished with that era for now.”

His brother, Matt Duffer, added, “Kids on bikes. Probably done with that.”

The creators of Stranger Things are moving away from the nostalgic ’80s setting and storylines focused on kids, but they aren’t finished with the overall story. Even though their deal with Netflix has ended, they plan to stay heavily involved in any future Stranger Things projects. They want to ensure anything with that title is well-made and high-quality, and they’re currently developing a spin-off series at their new home, Paramount.

What’s Next for Stranger Things?

Season 5 will wrap up the story of Will, Mike, Eleven, Dustin, and Lucas, bringing their adventures to an end. But the world of Stranger Things isn’t over! Netflix has announced a spinoff series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which will be an animated show set between seasons 2 and 3.

Here’s what you need to know about Tales From ’85: set in a frigid 1985 Hawkins, the original characters will face new monsters and a strange mystery that’s gripping their town. The voice cast includes Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper. Expect the show to arrive in 2026.

The Duffer brothers have confirmed they are working on something new. Matt Duffer explained they kept the details secret, which frustrated Netflix, but Finn Wolfhard correctly guessed what it was. “They finally know what it is,” Matt said. “We held onto the information, and they were so frustrated that we wouldn’t tell them. Finn was the only one who figured it out.”

Season 5 of Stranger Things is coming back in two parts. The first four episodes will be available starting November 26th, with two more episodes released on December 25th. The final episodes will conclude the season on December 31st.
