Prosecutors in Carroll County are requesting more financial documents from Wendy and Eddie Osefo as they prepare for their trial related to insurance fraud. The couple’s lawyers released a statement on Dr. Wendy’s Instagram, calling the new requests unfair and claiming the police didn’t thoroughly investigate the original break-in. They are now asking the court to cancel these requests for financial records.
According to the Baltimore Banner, prosecutors claim the Osefos possess around 40 credit and debit cards, some registered to company names. They also accuse the couple of using fake names to hide who they are. However, the Osefos’ lawyers argue the aliases were only used to protect the privacy of well-known personalities, specifically for package deliveries after legitimate purchases. They state the Osefos have never used false names on any financial documents and call the allegation misleading.
Wendy and Eddie Osefo were recently charged with fraud related to a reported burglary. Last month, they claimed over $200,000 worth of items—including jewelry, clothes, and shoes—were stolen from their home in April. However, prosecutors allege the couple returned about $20,000 worth of the items, and that Wendy was seen wearing a piece of the supposedly stolen jewelry after the incident.
The Osefos’ lawyers argue that their home was burglarized while they were on vacation, and the police didn’t start looking into it until after the couple was accused of a crime. According to Wendy’s legal team, the police ignored their reports and requests for updates for over a year and a half, despite their full cooperation. They also point out that other cast members from The Real Housewives franchise have been targeted by burglars after sharing travel plans on social media, but none have faced criminal charges like the Osefos. Just last weekend, Sutton Stracke and Kathy Hilton from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reported break-ins at their homes while attending BravoCon. Meanwhile, Mia Thornton, a former cast member of The Real Housewives of Potomac, was arrested for theft at the Atlanta airport. This adds to a recent pattern of legal trouble for Potomac housewives, as Karen Huger recently finished serving time for a DUI, making her the third cast member to face criminal charges in the past year.
