Chadwick Boseman’s Wife Praises ‘Lifetime of Artistry’ at Hollywood Walk of Fame

Chadwick Boseman was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, November 20th. His wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, accepted the award for him. During the ceremony, she, along with director Ryan Coogler (from Black Panther) and co-star Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), shared memories of the actor. The event concluded just before it began to rain. Attendees included Black Panther stars Letitia Wright and Michael B. Jordan, Los Angeles City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martínez, and Disney CEO Bob Iger. According to People magazine, Ledward-Boseman said, “Chad, today we celebrate your incredible talent and dedication, and ensure your place as a hero and icon. You lived with integrity and truth. You were brilliant, beautiful, and kind. We love you, miss you, and are grateful for your life.”

Davis shared memories of Chadwick Boseman and his djembe drum, which he always carried with him. She explained, according to the Grio, that Boseman seemed to express something spiritual through his acting and music. Davis described him as a bridge connecting people to the shared human desire for connection.

It’s still incredibly moving to hear Ryan Coogler talk about Chadwick Boseman. He shared how Chadwick came to every audition for Black Panther, even while battling cancer, and was unbelievably generous with his time on set. Coogler described him as a truly humble teacher, and someone it was an honor to work with. He put it beautifully – it’s like those who played with legends like Wayne Gretzky or Michael Jordan – you’re struck by how much potential there is in a person, and how much you have to learn. Chadwick showed that level of dedication and capability every single day, and it was truly inspiring.
