HBO has some exciting news for fans of Game of Thrones and the world created by George R.R. Martin in A Song of Ice and Fire. They’ve announced more about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones has seen a remarkable resurgence in popularity over the last six years.
Following a controversial final season, the world of Game of Thrones has made a strong comeback. House of the Dragon delivered two seasons that were as good as the show’s prime, and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is also looking promising. Now, there’s even more positive news for fans.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms & House Of The Dragon Have Been Renewed Through 2028
HBO announced today that it’s renewing both A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon through 2028. Fans will continue to be able to watch both shows on HBO and stream them on HBO Max.
Previously, only the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was guaranteed. While seasons 3 and 4 of House of the Dragon were planned, there was no set schedule. This recent support signals that more stories from The Tales of Dunk and Egg will be adapted, and we’ll see a fuller depiction of the Targaryen civil war.
When New Seasons Of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms & House Of The Dragon Will Release On HBO
HBO has announced that the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to arrive in 2027, roughly a year after the first season premieres. Season 1 will debut on HBO on Sunday, January 18th at 10 PM Eastern and Pacific time.
The third season of House of the Dragon is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2026, with the fourth season expected to arrive in 2028. Francesca Orsi, a head of drama at HBO, announced these renewal plans.
We’re excited to announce new seasons of both ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ will be coming for the next three years, bringing more stories to fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ world. These shows demonstrate the incredible depth and imagination of George R.R. Martin’s universe. In January, viewers will enjoy the heartwarming story of Dunk and Egg, beautifully written by George and Ira Parker. And this summer, ‘House of the Dragon’ returns with its most spectacular battles yet.
With three more years of storylines set in Westeros, HBO will have been bringing George R.R. Martin’s world to life for a total of 17 years.
The Future Of The Game Of Thrones Franchise Is Bright
The renewal of both A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon through 2028 is great news, showing how strong the Game of Thrones universe still is. HBO and Casey Bloys clearly believe these shows are popular and are committed to letting them grow and develop over time.
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be based on The Hedge Knight. Since there are two additional stories in the series – The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight – a second season will likely cover The Sworn Sword. Now, it appears the show could continue beyond 2028 to adapt The Mystery Knight as well.
It’s good news that House of the Dragon will likely continue for at least two more seasons, with breaks between them. According to Francesa Orsi, the show has significant battles ahead, and the creators need ample time and resources to portray these events effectively.
George R.R. Martin’s world still has plenty of stories left to tell. Predicting the future of TV is usually difficult, but the news about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon hints that even more exciting things are on the way.
