An actor known for playing a character connected to Superman is discussing his future with the new DC Universe, led by James Gunn. The first chapter of the DCU, titled ‘Gods and Monsters,’ is already in progress, with several films and series released and more planned.
At a ScreenRant panel during Motor City Comic Con 2025, Alan Tudyk—a star in the new DC Universe—was asked about his various roles in James Gunn’s franchise, especially his animated characters, and when he might reprise them in live-action. Tudyk, who voices Gary in Superman and played multiple characters—Doctor Phosphorus, Will Magnus, and Clayface—in Creature Commandos, simply replied, “I don’t know. He’s got so much going on.”
The DC insider said he’s letting James Gunn work independently and will be available when needed. He also expressed enthusiasm for Gunn’s upcoming projects at DC Studios, like the planned V for Vendetta TV series, saying, “He’s constantly announcing new and exciting things – I just learned they’re doing V for Vendetta!”
He highlighted that there are many projects in development with origins in DC comics that people might not expect, and he confirmed these will be revealed soon. When asked about the upcoming Jimmy Olsen TV show, he expressed enthusiasm, praising actor Skyler Gisondo as “hysterical” and someone whose work he’s always enjoyed, suggesting he’d likely participate if the opportunity arose.
As of now, Alan Tudyk hasn’t been confirmed for any future DC Universe films. However, with a second season of Creature Commandos already planned, fans can likely expect to see him return in that series. The DCU doesn’t have any new releases scheduled for 2025, but several projects are in development for 2026.
The TV show Lanterns is expected to premiere on HBO in early 2026, though a specific date hasn’t been announced. In movie theaters, DC Studios has Supergirl scheduled for June 26, 2026, and Clayface for September 11, 2026.
David Corenswet will reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming movie Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
