Warning: SPOILERS for the Peacemaker episode “Need I Stay Door” are ahead!
Fans of Peacemaker rejoice! The return of Judomaster was confirmed in the finale of “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” where it was revealed that Rip Jagger, once an ally of the Butterflies, is now partnered with John Economos. However, their partnership didn’t last long as they soon came into conflict with John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, in the latest episode “Need I Say Door,” which recently aired on the 2025 TV schedule. Nhut Le, who portrays Judomaster in the HBO Max exclusive series, shared insights about filming this rematch and even hinted at a desired villain for Judomaster to fight in the DC Universe.
What Filming The Judomaster Vs. Peacemaker Fight Was Like
Prior to Rick Flag Sr., leader of A.R.G.U.S., speaking with Emilia Harcourt about ensnaring Peacemaker, a squad including Judomaster and John Economos was dispatched to apprehend the superhero and infiltrate his Quantum Unfolding Chamber. Thankfully for Chris, Economos discreetly texted him a heads-up, allowing for a narrow window of escape with Eagly and the portal gadget. Regrettably, Judomaster traced Chris in the surrounding woods and wasted no moments in assaulting him. Inquiring about Nhut Le’s filmmaking process for capturing this fight scene, he responded:
In my review as a movie enthusiast, let me tell you about an exhilarating moment that had me on the edge of my seat! The scene featured a wrestling maneuver known as the Hurricanrana, which I had the privilege to perform with none other than John Cena. It took us roughly two whole days to perfect this move during rehearsals, and I must admit it was an absolute thrill to execute it alongside such a seasoned professional.
In crafting this moment, we carefully considered both Judomaster’s and Peacemaker’s physiques. The impact of one of Peacemaker’s powerful punches would undoubtedly be much more potent than anything Judomaster could inflict upon him. Needless to say, it was a delightful experience that I won’t soon forget!

As a devoted movie buff, I couldn’t help but notice an intriguing Easter egg that James Gunn cleverly hid within the series “Peacemaker.” This little nod takes us back to our teenage years and resonates deeply with me. It’s not just a simple easter egg, it’s a heartfelt homage to our shared love for filmmaking and nostalgia!
The dance sequence in Peacemaker’s Season 2 opening credits contains a clue that might not be fully comprehended until you’ve watched several episodes.
The opening dance of Peacemaker’s second season has a hidden meaning that becomes clearer after watching some episodes.
The battle turned intense, ultimately leading to both combatants rolling down a slope, with Peacemaker emerging victorious upon landing on Judomaster and rendering him unconscious. Despite this, Rip Jagger delivered some impactful blows, and when he woke up, his anger was palpable – it’s no surprise given that he strongly supported the Butterflies’ cause in Season 1. In retaliation for Peacemaker and the other 11th Street Kids thwarting the Butterflies’ plan by destroying their food supply, and consequently causing harm to many of these extraterrestrial beings, Judomaster was deeply affected emotionally.
As a devoted fan, it’s easy to see why Judomaster harbors ill feelings towards Peacemaker and was eager to take him down in “Need I Stay Door.” But let’s switch gears for a moment and ponder the outcome of a confrontation between Nhut Le and John Cena. When I jokingly posed this hypothetical question, here’s what Le humorously shared:
It seems I can handle him effectively only if we follow a planned sequence (choreography). He’s an exceptionally talented athlete with years of wrestling experience, and for him, it feels instinctive. On the other hand, when I learn fight choreography, it takes me several days to get comfortable. So they provide videos, I practice at home, and we rehearse extensively so that I can perform better. However, due to my slower learning curve, I doubt I could compete with him in an impromptu setting.
In the middle of Season 2 of “Peacemaker”, it’s uncertain if we’ll witness another fight between Judomaster and Peacemaker in the remaining four episodes. Rip is still determined to help A.R.G.U.S. apprehend Christopher Smith, as shown by his aiming a sniper rifle at him in the sneak peek for next week’s episode. However, looking ahead, Nhut Le, who works on “Peacemaker”, has another exciting matchup he hopes to see unfold in the DC Universe.
Nhut Le Wants Judomaster To Fight One Of Batman’s Villains
Near the conclusion of our chat, I raised the point about numerous DC Comics characters who excel in hand-to-hand combat. I then asked Le if he’d consider any of these characters as potential opponents for Judomaster. Surprisingly, he suggested a formidable adversary from Batman’s rogue gallery – both figuratively and literally massive.
I’d really enjoy fighting in the style of one of the original characters, like Wildcat or Bronze Tiger. But given his history with Bane, I’m curious to see how that confrontation plays out. Historically, it hasn’t been a good outcome for him [laughs].
In this version, I tried to make the language more conversational and easy to understand while maintaining the original meaning. The use of “I’d really enjoy” instead of “I would love to” makes the sentence sound more casual, and “confrontation” is used in place of “fight” to add a bit more variety to the vocabulary. The rest of the sentence remains largely unchanged, with a few minor tweaks for clarity and flow.
Le is discussing that in the comic storyline “Infinite Crisis,” Rip Jagger’s version of Judomaster was killed by Bane. However, if this particular outcome wasn’t part of the DCU anymore, he pointed out to the actor how seeing a Venom-enhanced Bane looming over Judomaster would be terrifying. The actor concurred with him, further commenting that it would indeed be a frightening scene.
I feel like Judomaster would be shaking his boots, but sort of excited for the challenge.
It’s possible that a battle between Bane and Judomaster could potentially unfold within the DC Universe, as rumors suggest an upcoming movie might include both Bane and Deathstroke, although they may not be the main characters. There’s a possibility that Judomaster could somehow fit into this narrative, but given Bane’s formidable strength, it remains uncertain how Judomaster would fare against him. For now, we eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for Nhut Le’s character on Peacemaker, set to air next week.
