YouTube is bringing back direct messages, a feature it took away six years ago, though initially only a limited number of users will be able to try it out.
YouTube is testing a feature that lets users share and discuss video clips directly within the app, according to a recent update to their help center.
This test is similar to YouTube’s first attempt at direct messaging, which debuted in 2017 but was discontinued in 2019 when the platform decided to prioritize public comments instead.
This time around, the revival is extremely limited… for now.

YouTube is testing a new feature with adults in Ireland and Poland, and this test could lead to private messaging becoming available to everyone globally.
YouTube has added messaging because many users asked for it, but they want to be clear that these chats aren’t completely private. YouTube will check messages to make sure they follow their community rules.
YouTube stated that its systems check for content violating its policies – things that could cause harm in the real world – and they review anything flagged as potentially problematic.
The platform hasn’t said when this feature will be available in more countries, and it’s currently unknown if it will eventually be released to everyone worldwide.
