Police in Ohio conducted a routine check on a 91-year-old woman, but were surprised to find her deeply focused on playing a video game. The visit, intended to ensure her well-being, resulted in a funny misunderstanding.
News 5 Cleveland reported that police went to a woman’s house after they couldn’t get in touch with her.
It turned out the woman was part of the city’s “Are You OK?” program, a free service for seniors. Each day, someone calls to check on them and make sure they’re doing well.
Police check-up on unresponsive pensioner
When a 91-year-old woman didn’t respond to her regular daily check-in, police in Westlake were alerted. Officers went to her home, worried about her well-being, and tried to reach her.
When she didn’t answer the door, police entered the house to check on her well-being.
Police responded to a welfare check when the woman didn’t answer her door, but found her perfectly fine. It turned out she was deeply engrossed in playing a video game and hadn’t noticed the repeated knocks – she was determined to achieve a new high score!
It’s unclear what she was watching, but she was completely absorbed in it, to the point where she lost track of everything around her.
Thankfully, the stressful situation quickly turned into a lighthearted one. The Westlake Police Department reported that everyone found the situation funny once they learned the woman had simply been playing video games for a long time.
And I’m not the only older gamer who’s really into this! Just last month, a 91-year-old went viral for beating Resident Evil Requiem – and they did it using handwritten notes! It’s awesome to see people of all ages enjoying games.
