Okay, so for a JRPG to really hook me, it needs content that feels worthwhile – no boring side quests that just feel like padding. Everything needs to be genuinely fun! And the gameplay itself, like battles and leveling up, absolutely can’t be a grind. If it feels like a chore, I’ll just stop playing, no matter how good the story is.

If you are looking for your next JRPG adventure that will keep you hooked from beginning to end, this list is for you. Here are the 10 most addicting JRPGs on the PlayStation 5 console.

10. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

So Many Activities

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the second game in the remake series, is incredibly engaging. Scarlet Nexus stands out with its incredibly engaging combat system in the action JRPG world. You’ll use powerful psychic abilities to fling objects like cars and wreckage at your enemies. This blends seamlessly with quick, close-quarters fighting, creating a gameplay loop that’s both addictive and enjoyable. As you level up, you’ll unlock new abilities, letting you experiment with different playstyles and create surprisingly deep character builds.

2. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

A Beautiful Remake of a Classic

Square Enix has been consistently releasing excellent games using its unique HD-2D style. Between the new announcement of Final Fantasy Resonance, the popular Octopath Traveler games, and the remakes of the first three Dragon Quest titles, there’s a lot to choose from! But that’s a good thing, because they’re all fantastic. If I had to pick the most captivating, I’d say the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake takes the top spot.
