
Recently, IO Interactive has been primarily working on the 007: First Light game. They’ve expanded the Hitman series by evolving Hitman 3 into Hitman: World of Assassination and adding new contracts with celebrity targets. However, they still have future plans for the Hitman franchise.
The studio’s CEO, Hakan Abrak, addressed this issue in an interview with Variety. He said:
Naturally, we’ll be making more Hitman games. We’re focusing on getting through this year, and next year you’ll hear more about co-op mode, which we think will be a great addition to the Hitman universe and offer exciting new gameplay possibilities within World of Assassination. After that, we’ll start talking about the next Hitman installment – because, yes, another one is definitely planned.
Abrak hasn’t shared any details about the next Hitman game. IO Interactive could start a completely new series, or they might continue the existing ‘World of Assassination’ storyline. While the official title is still unknown, fans are already calling it ‘Hitman 4’. Despite this, it would actually be the ninth major game in the Hitman series, considering IO Interactive’s naming history.
