Natisha Dingle remains the world’s fastest woman after reaching an average speed of 309.01 mph in a skydiving competition held in Austria.
A Queensland athlete broke the world record for speed skydiving on August 30th at the FAI World Cup. She reached a new top speed, exceeding her previous record of 305.70 mph set in 2022, as confirmed by Guinness World Records.
Dingle has been incredibly successful in air sports, winning both the 2023 FAI World Cup (his fifth title) and the 2024 FAI World Speed Skydiving Championships (his fourth), according to the FAI World Air Sports Federation.
Team gold and new records
The 37-year-old athlete not only achieved a new Oceania record at this year’s competition, but also won gold in the mixed team event with Mervyn O’Connell. Their combined speed of 507.58 kph set a new world record for the event.
In an interview with ABC, Dingle said skydiving at those speeds feels like complete freedom. He explained that when you’re falling, you’re fully focused on the moment and not worried about everyday concerns like work or meals – just the jump itself.
She explained that the key to going as fast as possible is to remain perfectly still. “Any movement, or anything you push against the wind, will slow you down,” she said. “So the best approach is to relax and not overexert yourself.”
This isn’t the first time this year that the current record holder has surpassed their own best. Back in September, Thor Bjornsson, nicknamed ‘The Mountain,’ successfully deadlifted 1,124 pounds, which was 11 pounds heavier than his previous record.
