As a big TV fan, I was disappointed to find out that there are no new episodes of Law & Order or Law & Order: SVU tonight, April 14th, 2026 – it’s all down to NBC’s schedule. Honestly, these shows created by Dick Wolf feel like total staples on television now. I can hardly picture Thursday nights on NBC without them! What’s great is how they manage to blend the detectives’ work lives with their personal stories. Plus, because they share the same world and city, those crossover episodes are always something to look forward to each year.
Since wrapping up coverage of the Winter Olympics in Milan, NBC has been consistently rolling out its 2025-2026 schedule with very few interruptions. Following a brief break, seasons 25 of Law & Order and 27 of Law & Order: SVU kicked off with a highly anticipated crossover event. After the crossover, the teams led by Olivia Benson and Nicholas Baxter returned to their individual investigations. Now, as the Law & Order franchise nears its conclusion, NBC is again changing its regular programming lineup.
Why There Are No New Law & Order & Law & Order: SVU Episiodes Tonight (April 16, 2026)
Tonight, new episodes of both Law & Order season 25 and Law & Order: SVU season 27 will be missing from NBC’s schedule. While the network previously paused broadcasts for the Winter Olympics, the reason for this week’s change isn’t immediately clear. However, past patterns suggest it likely relates to the shows’ planned season finales. Both series are set to have 21 episodes this season, and this break would position their final episodes to air around mid-May.

I’m so excited for the next episode of Law & Order: SVU! Season 27, episode 18, titled “Gimmick,” looks really compelling. From what I’ve heard, the SVU team is investigating a strange death at a hotel that somehow connects to the world of professional fighting. I’m especially intrigued by the storyline where Benson is trying to help a victim find the courage to speak up for a friend – it sounds like it’s going to be a powerful episode.
The latest episode of Law & Order, season 25, episode 18, titled “Ride or Die,” centers around the murder of a well-known local news reporter. The case becomes particularly challenging when Maroun’s mentor defends the accused, forcing Maroun to go up against the woman who guided her early in her career.
