Why Keanu Reeves’ Shadow the Hedgehog Movie Could Happen After Sonic 4

Following the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – which earned nearly $492 million and featured Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow the Hedgehog – rumors are circulating online that a dedicated Shadow movie could be in development, potentially after a fourth Sonic film. However, this hasn’t been officially announced yet.

New evidence could be good news for a Shadow the Hedgehog movie

A user on X (formerly Twitter), known as Sonic City, shared information suggesting a Keanu Reeves-led Shadow the Hedgehog movie could be in development after the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Sonic City reported that SEGA recently trademarked Shadow the Hedgehog, though it’s unknown what this is for. While the filmmakers haven’t confirmed a Shadow movie, fans are hoping Reeves will reprise his role as the voice of Shadow if one is made.

Paramount is currently working on Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is expected to come out in 2027.

Fans praised Keanu Reeves’ voice performance as Shadow. In a November 2024 interview with Screen Rant, Reeves explained his preparation for the role, describing it as a deeply personal process of finding the character’s underlying anger and emotion. He called the experience intense and unlike anything he’d done before.

Jeff Fowler, the director of Sonic 3, recently praised Keanu Reeves’ work voicing Shadow. He said Reeves was ‘fantastic’ to collaborate with and really embraced the character, calling him ‘awesome.’ Fowler also noted that Reeves quickly understood their vision for the role and was enthusiastic about putting his own spin on it.
