What to Expect from Honkai: Star Rail's Rappa

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that the upcoming addition of Rappa to Honkai: Star Rail is nothing short of exhilarating! Her unique abilities and flashy ninjutsu moves have caught my attention like a moth to a flame.

In the upcoming version 2.6 of Honkai: Star Rail, the standout limited five-star character is Rappa, who seems to be one of the most visually striking characters in the game thus far. The 2.6 livestream and leaks have given players a sneak peek at her abilities, which showcase a playstyle that breaks weaknesses, similar to her comrade Boothill from the Galaxy Rangers. However, being an Erudition unit, Rappa’s abilities focus more on dealing damage to multiple targets instead of a single enemy. This raises curiosity about how she will perform in Honkai: Star Rail’s endgame modes and how she will work with existing and future Break-focused supports.

On August 27, 2024, Rappa was formally introduced via Honkai: Star Rail’s Extraterrestrial Communication format across its social media and Reddit platforms. As a result, players discovered that she is a Galaxy Ranger who combats adversaries using the skill of “Cosmic ninjutsu.” Given her flashy ninja appearance, it seems likely that she arrived in Penacony following Boothill’s distress signal to thwart Sunday’s nefarious intentions. The V2.6 Livestream hinted that the next Trailblaze Continuance will revolve around her meeting with the enigmatic film director, Mr. Reca, in the land of dreams.

Honkai: Star Rail’s Rappa is the Pure Fiction Specialist of the Break Archetype

In the Apocalyptic Shadow, Memory of Chaos, and Pure Fiction game modes, Firefly and Boothill have been the top choices due to their break-focused playstyles. However, they don’t excel in multi-target scenarios like Pure Fiction, primarily because Boothill is designed for single-target situations. Although Firefly can unleash massive Blast damage on three enemies with her enhanced skill, she can only do so during her ultimate state. Rappa, however, appears to be the solution that addresses this multi-target gap in the Break archetype by utilizing both her skill and ultimate effectively.

The following ability descriptions are based on pre-release information and leaks, so they are subject to change until Rappa is officially released.

  • Skill – Ninja Strike: Rooted Resolute: This doles out a big percentage of Imaginary damage to all enemies. According to reliable leaks from HomDGCat, this ability can deal up to 120% of Rappa’s ATK at Level 10.
  • Ultimate – Nindo Supreme: Aishiteru: Rappa switches to her “Sealform” state, with a first-person perspective. She immediately gains a turn and an enhanced basic attack called “Ningu: Demonbane Petalblade.” Its first two hits are Imaginary blast attacks and its final hit deals massive AOE damage. These attacks reduce the enemy’s toughness regardless of element, like Feixiao’s ultimate.

Rappa’s characteristics lean more towards the Break role, as demonstrated by her Talent “Ninja Tech: Endurance Gauge” and Technique “Ninja Dash: By Leaps and Bounds.” The Talent, as suggested in pre-release details, grants Rappa a charge each time her team cracks an enemy’s vulnerability. She can hold up to 10 charges, and each one enhances her ability to reduce enemy toughness and increase Break Damage. On the other hand, her Technique allows her to ride on a large Shuriken, boosting her movement speed in the open world. When attacking an enemy while riding the Shuriken, she inflicts toughness reduction and Break Damage, regardless of the enemy’s element, and gains 10 energy.

How Rappa Fits Into the Current Super Break Teams

During the 2.6 livestream event, you’ll find Rappa showcased in a conventional Break setup alongside Harmony Trailblazer, Ruan Mei, and Lingsha. This configuration seems tailor-made for her, as these supports amplify her Break Effect and Speed. Notably, Harmony Trailblazer’s ultimate ability allows Rappa to inflict colossal Super Break damage on enemies when they’re in a vulnerable state. Furthermore, Lingsha’s Befog debuff enables Rappa to deal increased Break Damage to her foes.

Rappa strives to maximize her ultimate ability as much as feasible since she lacks the means to insert her element’s vulnerability like Firefly and Boothill do. Consequently, Sealform state is her most dependable method for efficiently reducing the enemy’s durability levels. It would be beneficial if she could have a sustain or support that generates Ultimate Energy for her, such as Gallagher with the Quid Pro Quo Light Cone or the upcoming character Sunday, who is said to possess an energy overflow mechanism in his skillset. In summary, Rappa is an excellent option for players aiming to excel at Pure Fiction or those seeking a Break DPS but missed Firefly and Boothill’s banners.
