As a seasoned analyst with years of experience navigating the cryptocurrency landscape, I can confidently say that the recent warnings issued by Shiba Inu’s team regarding scammers promoting fake Treat tokens and impersonation schemes on Telegram are nothing new. Unfortunately, it seems that the world of crypto is a breeding ground for such misleading tactics.
TL;DR
- The Shiba Inu team warned of scammers promoting a fake Treat token.
- Wrongdoers also target Shiba Inu community members on Telegram with fraudulent airdrops and impersonation schemes designed to steal personal data or funds.
The ‘Misleading Tactics’
Shiba Inu, often referred to as the potential rival of Dogecoin, boasts a large following of owners, supporters, and innovators. Given this, it’s not unexpected that some of its members may find themselves in the crosshairs of unscrupulous individuals.
The Shibarium Trustwatch team has recently issued a warning regarding a counterfeit X account that appears genuine, claiming to be a bona fide project and offering services associated with Treat.
The group responsible for this is not connected to the Shiba Inu (Shib) ecosystem, and the coin they’re endorsing will not be utilized in any official Shiba Inu projects, as stated in the disclaimer.
As a researcher, I’ve come across Shibarium Trustwatch’s warning about scammers using a “positive narrative” to deceive people by offering investments in yet-to-be-launched tokens. Their advice? Always verify the information thoroughly before making any investment decisions.
This isn’t the initial occurrence where individuals have used counterfeit Treat tokens deceptively. Almost a month ago, such a tactic was observed:
Here’s a heads-up: Certain groups are trying to pass off a fraudulent Treat token as part of the Shiba Inu Ecosystem. Please note, the official release of the Treat token has not occurred yet. Any token that claims otherwise is a scam intended to mislead you.
Telegram Users Beware
Members of the SHIB community who communicate via Telegram have been targeted by scammers. The team has recently cautioned about fraudulent groups on the platform, as they distribute misleading airdrop offers. It’s advised for the Shibarmy to steer clear.
They’ll empty your wallet. Be cautious, Shibarmy, and stay vigilant,” the warning advises.
Prior to that, there was a similar warning, claiming that bad actors present themselves as legitimate individuals or entities only to find an opportunity to drain people’s wallets once connecting them via the messaging app:
As a diligent crypto investor, I want to bring your attention to a concerning matter. I’ve noticed some fraudsters lurking on the Telegram DMs of the Shiba Ecosystem & Shibarium Tech group. These cunning individuals might pretend to be legitimate members or organizations within our community, aiming to trick you into divulging personal information, financial details, or even sending them money. Please stay vigilant and never share sensitive data unless you’re absolutely certain of the source’s authenticity.
