Nintendo surprised Switch Online + Expansion Pack members with a new GameCube game! Wario World is now available to play on Nintendo Switch.
Wario World, first launched in 2003, is a 3D platforming adventure where Wario sets out to get revenge after his treasure is stolen and castle ruined. Interestingly, the game was developed by Treasure, a studio famous for titles like Gunstar Heroes, Sin and Punishment, and Ikaruga.
With the addition of Wario World, Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack now features seven GameCube games. It’s interesting that Wario World was released because Nintendo had hinted at other GameCube titles – like Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon Colosseum – coming to the service, but hadn’t mentioned this one. The last game added to the service was Luigi’s Mansion, which launched just before Halloween.
Nintendo revealed this week that Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble will be added to the Nintendo 64 games available through the Expansion Pack on December 17th. A standard Nintendo Switch Online membership is $20 per year and gives you access to classic NES, SNES, and Game Boy games. To play Wario World and Rayman 2, you’ll need the more expensive Expansion Pack, which costs $50 a year or $80 for a family. It’s worth noting that the GameCube library is currently only available to Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
