With Season 3 of ‘The Night Agent‘ premiering soon on Netflix, the show’s creator, Shawn Ryan, has shared some important news about the possibility of a fourth season.
Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’ unexpectedly became a huge success. After its quiet debut in March 2023, the show quickly rose to become one of Netflix’s most popular titles, racking up 98.2 million views in its first 91 days.
The show, adapted from Matthew Quirk’s novel, follows Gabriel Basso as a rookie FBI agent. He works monitoring an emergency hotline for hidden dangers and unexpectedly finds himself caught up in a dangerous plot within the White House.
Season 2 of The Night Agent premiered in January 2025, and Season 3 is arriving this week, on February 19, 2026. Plus, there’s good news about a potential Season 4!
The Night Agent Season 4 writers room is now active
Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Night Agent, says the writing team for Season 4 started working in 2025, developing the plot and writing scripts. However, Netflix hasn’t officially approved the season yet.
According to Ryan, while Season 4 hasn’t been officially confirmed, the show’s writers were brought together earlier in 2025 to start developing storylines and scripts. They’ve been actively working on the plot and have already made progress on some episodes.
Netflix is watching the performance of Season 3 closely before deciding whether to renew the show for a fourth season. This makes sense, considering viewership for Season 2 dropped by about 50% compared to Season 1.
There’s a limited timeframe to begin production, however. A tax incentive expires in November 2025 that would keep filming in New York, and the team has six months from now to start work if they want to take advantage of it. Fortunately, because they’ve already established a writers’ room, the team is prepared to get started quickly on ‘The Night Agent’.
Ryan pointed out that Netflix is careful to ensure all creative aspects are finalized and polished before investing a significant amount of money.
We’re currently developing the story and writing the scripts for the next season. We expect a decision on whether or not to officially start Season 4 within the next few weeks, and we’ll have the scripts prepared so we can begin filming quickly after that, minimizing the wait between seasons.
