Steven Caple Jr., the director of the Transformers movies, recently shared some unexpected details about the upcoming film.
Caple Jr. has announced that the next Transformers movie won’t be the big sequel everyone has been expecting for the past three years. Caple Jr. directed the seventh film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which served as a fresh start and backstory to the previous movies directed by Michael Bay. Rise of the Beasts featured the Autobots fighting Scourge, the leader of the Terrorcons, and his powerful boss, Unicron. The film ended by suggesting that a G.I. Joe crossover movie is planned for the future.
Director Caple Jr. recently told ScreenRant that the planned crossover movie between Transformers and G.I. Joe isn’t Paramount’s next film in the franchise. While he still intends to make the movie hinted at in ‘Rise of the Beasts,’ he’s currently not working on the next standalone Transformers film.
Check out what Caple Jr. had to say below:
ScreenRant asked about the possibility of a crossover between Transformers and G.I. Joe, recalling a previous conversation where the director mentioned plans for such a project. They inquired if there were any updates on whether that crossover might happen.
I definitely still have ideas for future projects. However, I won’t be involved with the next Transformers movie, though it’s still being developed, so anything could happen. We’ll see what the future holds.
The future of the Transformers movie series is uncertain. Although Bumblebee and Transformers One were well-received by critics, the two most recent films didn’t perform well at the box office. While Transformers: Rise of the Beasts received mixed reviews from critics, audiences generally liked it. Despite this, the franchise’s direction is unclear, though Caple Jr. is optimistic about returning for another installment.
Several Transformers movies are currently in the works. Michael Bay, the director of the first five films, has proposed a new movie idea that he hopes to direct, with a script by Jordan VanDina. Josh Cooley, who directed Transformers One, is also slated to direct another live-action Transformers film, though details about the story are still under wraps. Rise of the Beasts is intended to be the first film in a trilogy, which, as of now, remains planned despite not being a current focus.
According to Caple Jr., there’s no confirmed release date for the potential Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie. While he’s optimistic about the project and continues to work on it, Paramount doesn’t seem to be prioritizing it right now. It sounds like they’re holding onto the idea for the future, even though there’s been no official word on when – or if – it will actually happen.
Even though Transformers 8 won’t be the G.I. Joe crossover fans were hoping for, the future of the Transformers series still looks promising. Whether it’s the film planned by Bay, the movie being developed by Cooley, or another project altogether, the franchise is continuing, despite the fact that Caple Jr.’s larger-scale plans are currently paused.
