Following the presentation, Jon Favreau showed CinemaCon attendees the first 17 minutes of the film. The footage begins with text explaining the aftermath of the Galactic Empire’s defeat and the New Republic’s efforts to rebuild, as Din Djarin tracks down former Imperial soldiers in the Outer Rim, according to Deadline.
The scene shifts to a strained meeting of Imperial leaders. The head official talks about safeguarding the council, but also points out that the Empire’s insufficient help has driven up costs. He concludes by declaring an increase in the amount they must pay as tribute.
One council member voiced concerns about pirates and thieves disrupting trade routes. The leader responded by fatally shooting the member, then urged everyone to work together to solve their issues.
Djarin arrives and quickly defeats several armed soldiers. He then escapes through a snowy mountain landscape with Grogu, riding on a robotic mount. Later, he encounters Ward, who explains their goal isn’t simply to get revenge, but to prevent future conflict and safeguard the ideals of the Rebellion.
Ward tasks Din Djarin with locating a lost commander, sending him to speak with Rotta the Hutt. When Din expresses his reluctance, Ward bluntly tells him that if he doesn’t want the assignment, there’s no work for him.
