The Evangelion studio’s Gundam anime finally gets a release date and streaming home

An eagerly awaited Gundam series will be available across over 240 nations on Amazon’s Prime Video starting from April.

According to an announcement by Amazon, the excitingly named Gundam GQuuuuuuX will begin streaming on April 8, a title that’s reminiscent of placeholder terms often used in computer programming.

For years, Gundam has been a well-established franchise, but this upcoming project has generated significant excitement. The reason behind the buzz is that it’s being created by an exceptional team comprising Studio Khara, known for Rebuild of Evangelion, and Sunrise, the masterminds behind Gundam. Joining director Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL) are Hideaki Anno, a creative force from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Yoji Enokido, an accomplished writer who has worked on Sailor Moon.

In a statement, Tsurumaki expressed his excitement about directing the latest addition to the Mobile Suit Gundam series, titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. He mentioned that he was particularly pleased because FLCL, another popular title in the series, had gained international acclaim, bringing him great joy. After all these years, he is thrilled to be able to share this new project through digital streaming. He hopes that audiences worldwide will take the time to watch and appreciate it.

In a universe distinct from that of Mobile Suit Gundam, the story unfolds around Amate, a high school student who unintentionally becomes involved in the clandestine Clan Battle tournament. The situation escalates when she crosses paths with Shuuji, a boy who owns a valuable Mobile Suit Gundam and is sought after by both the military and law enforcement. As the narrative suggests, “the world is on the brink of a new epoch.

If you’re looking for top-notch anime to watch in 2025, be sure to check them out! Meanwhile, take a peek at one critic’s review of why Gundam GQuuuuuuX offers the ultimate mecha experience.
