The Boys Season 5 Episode 6’s Major Supe Death Addressed By Chace Crawford

Be warned, major spoilers follow for The Boys season 5, episode 6! The show just unexpectedly killed off a significant superhero character in a very violent scene.

Chace Crawford, who plays the Deep in The Boys, has discussed a significant death in season 5, episode 6. The episode features a shocking fight where the Deep supports an oil pipeline that explodes, causing massive harm to marine life and turning him against the ocean. This happens after Black Noir reveals he sabotaged the pipeline to avenge Adam Bourke’s death. The Deep then fatally stabs Black Noir with his own knife during a confrontation in the recording studio.

In a recent interview with Tatiana Hullender from ScreenRant, actor Nathan Crawford discussed the emotional impact of Black Noir’s death in Season 5, Episode 6 of The Boys. He described filming the scene with Nathan Mitchell as particularly moving, as it was their last time working together. Crawford also highlighted the work of choreographer John Koyama, who created a believable and poignant scene where The Deep uses Noir’s own knife, effectively ending their previously close friendship. Here’s what Crawford shared:

ScreenRant asked about filming Black Noir’s death scene: What was it like to portray, how enjoyable was the role, and when did it feel real that the character was gone?

Chace Crawford described walking onto the set as surreal, thinking, “Wow, this is really happening.” Once filming started, the focus shifted to making everything feel authentic and believable.

Seeing Nathan in the suit felt like the real turning point. Although there was still some filming left, it definitely felt like things were wrapping up. We all struggled to accept those final moments, almost pretending they weren’t happening. It’s like you have six months to say goodbye, and then suddenly, it’s actually over.

I remember wondering how they’d pull off the fight between Deep and Black Noir – specifically, how Deep would even try to overpower him! Thankfully, our stunt coordinator, John Koyama, had it all perfectly planned out. It was surprisingly satisfying to stab Black Noir with his own knife and see the blood spread. Honestly, I really loved that character, so it was tough filming that scene. And delivering the line, ‘You’re not my bro. You were never my bro’… that was just a difficult thing to say, even as an actor.

I’ll really miss everyone who worked on the show, and saying goodbye was definitely a mixed bag of emotions. It was a sad day overall, but the whole situation with Black Noir was over the top, and it led to some pretty wild consequences – like the oil pipeline issue and Deep being exiled from the ocean, which is actually hilarious. It’s a surprisingly complex and entertaining story.

The Deep and Noir have been feuding since season 5, episode 3, when The Deep knocked Noir unconscious and falsely claimed he was the one who brought Stan Edgar to Homelander. Ever since, they’ve been trying to one-up each other. It started with Noir suggesting a public display of Homelander’s powers to appear as though he’d healed Noir’s voice. This led The Deep to kill Adam, effectively ending Noir’s hopes of a Broadway career. In retaliation, the now-deceased Supe sabotaged a pipeline The Deep had been forced to support, which proved to be the final breaking point.

The current Black Noir appeared in The Boys starting with season 4, after Homelander killed the original. He was initially unhappy with being part of The Seven, but a friendship with The Deep helped him adjust. However, he later realized The Deep was selfish and arrogant, leading to a conflict between them. Ultimately, Black Noir’s boastful admission of killing numerous sea creatures proved to be his downfall.

It’s currently unknown what will happen now that The Deep has killed Black Noir. Beyond their rivalry, The Deep also lost his only real friend on the Seven. He’s now left relying on Homelander, who just received a powerful V-One injection. This raises questions about how trustworthy Homelander will be, and whether he even needs The Deep’s help anymore. Ultimately, The Deep’s actions might have sealed his own fate.

As The Boys heads into its last two episodes, the impact of Black Noir’s death will be felt throughout the finale. His loss could spell trouble for the Seven, particularly since Homelander is now strong enough to operate completely on his own. The remaining episodes will likely show the fallout from the Deep’s choices, all while Black Noir’s death casts a shadow over everything.
