Seeing his father’s body caused Homelander to fall apart emotionally, largely because he’d lost one of the few family members he had left, and a key potential ally in his fight against those who opposed him.

Near the end of The Boys Season 5, Episode 2, Soldier Boy unexpectedly comes back to life, suggesting the virus didn’t actually kill him. This is a major development, as it shows the supe-killing virus, even though powerful, isn’t strong enough to eliminate the most powerful supes like Soldier Boy.
