The Boys Season 5 Confirms Fate Of Soldier Boy Following Episode 2 Ending

In Season 5 of The Boys, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) reappeared in Episode 2, only to be seemingly killed off again in a surprising turn of events. The episode focused on Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys testing a virus designed to kill superpowered individuals on the members of the Teenage Kix, a group similar to Young Justice. Their plan hit a snag when Homelander sent Soldier Boy after them to stop them.

In the second episode of The Boys Season 5, a major fight unfolded when the team tricked Soldier Boy and the new hero Jetstreak into the Teenage Kix’s hideout, not realizing Rock Hard was already a prisoner there. Once everyone was inside, The Boys released a virus, which immediately killed both Rock Hard and Jetstreak.

Despite being incredibly strong and durable – one of the most powerful characters in The Boys – Soldier Boy still got sick from the virus. He developed skin problems, a cough, and became severely ill. Although he fought it for a while, he ultimately collapsed and appeared to die from the infection.

Mother Milk told Butcher that Soldier Boy was definitely dead. The following scenes showed Homelander arriving and seeing Soldier Boy’s body being taken away. Seeing his father’s body caused Homelander to fall apart emotionally, largely because he’d lost one of the few family members he had left, and a key potential ally in his fight against those who opposed him.

Near the end of The Boys Season 5, Episode 2, Soldier Boy unexpectedly comes back to life, suggesting the virus didn’t actually kill him. This is a major development, as it shows the supe-killing virus, even though powerful, isn’t strong enough to eliminate the most powerful supes like Soldier Boy.

This means Butcher and his team need to completely rethink their approach to strengthening the virus, as it probably won’t be effective against Homelander.

The Boys Season 5 Trailer Already Spoiled Soldier Boy’s Fate

Given that Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins haven’t had their expected on-screen reunion in Season 5, many fans suspect Soldier Boy might not be as dead as it seems.

The latest trailer for The Boys Season 5 shows that the core three heroes will appear in scenes together, confirming Soldier Boy survived his exposure to the supe-virus.

The trailer also showed Soldier Boy and Homelander entering an abandoned hospital, hinting they might be searching for a cure to the virus.

A new scene from the trailer reveals Soldier Boy using his powers on one of the Boys, likely Butcher, suggesting he’ll seek revenge against the team during the fifth season.

The trailer showed us V1, the very first version of Compound V created by Vought. This version of the compound can make anyone who receives an injection of it immortal.

This suggests Soldier Boy might have received V1 in the past, which could explain how he survived the virus that kills superpowered people. Alternatively, Homelander could be searching for V1 to inject himself and his father, hoping to maintain and strengthen their immense power.

Okay, let’s talk about that Soldier Boy appearance at the end of episode two. It’s pretty clear now that he’s not just a flashback or a one-off villain. His return absolutely sets him up to be a major player – and likely a source of even more chaos – as the season wraps up. I’m expecting big things from him, and probably a lot of trouble for the rest of the characters.
