The popular superhero show on Amazon is wrapping up after its fifth and current season. Despite a strong start to the final season, the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, is worried about how fans will react to the ending, especially considering the controversial finale of Game of Thrones.
The final season of Game of Thrones received a lot of criticism, which negatively impacted how people remembered the show, even though it had been incredibly popular before. According to The River, The Boys creator Eric Kripke was very aware of this while planning the ending for his own series, fearing a similar negative reaction. Ultimately, Kripke found that worrying about a disappointing finale actually helped him be more thoughtful and careful with how The Boys would conclude.
Will The Boys Pull a Game of Thrones?
Kripke admits he was genuinely scared when approaching the project. He wasn’t confident at all, just terrified. He explains that people often judge entire shows based on how they end, and it’s frustrating because, as he’s recently rediscovered while watching Game of Thrones with his son, the show was a massive technical and creative success. While the final three episodes weren’t perfect across eight seasons, it was still a world-changing accomplishment, and he feels people are being unfair to it.
He admitted being really worried about how people would react, so he was incredibly thorough in reviewing everything. He checked every detail and questioned every assumption. He believes they succeeded, though he acknowledges that the initial feedback is from his own team, so it’s hard to be sure. Ultimately, he’s anxious to see how the wider public responds and hopes they’ll like it.
The Franchise Will Continue After The Boys Ends
Based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the popular show The Boys first appeared on Prime Video in 2019 and has been a success for Amazon ever since. The show features a talented cast including Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jensen Ackles, Nathan Mitchell, Laz Alonso, Jessie T. Usher, Tomer Capone, and Karen Fukuhara.
Even after the main show finishes, the story world will keep growing. We’ve already seen this with two seasons of Gen V, which followed young superheroes learning the ropes. Now, a new prequel is coming that will explore the backstory of Jensen Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy.
The Boys is streaming on Prime Video.
