The Salt Lake City District Attorney’s office announced yesterday that Taylor Frankie Paul, known from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, won’t face domestic assault charges related to her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, with whom she has a child. Prosecutors decided not to pursue charges because the alleged incidents happened too long ago – falling outside the legal time limit for filing. Additionally, some of the reported complaints didn’t qualify as crimes, and there wasn’t enough evidence to prove the allegations in court. The DA’s office stated that the remaining incidents lacked specific details and supporting evidence to meet the standard of proof required for criminal charges.
Paul shared on Instagram that they cried after hearing the news, and expressed gratitude to everyone who supported them.
Paul is breathing a sigh of relief after a difficult period in the public eye. Filming of Mormon Wives was halted in March due to a domestic dispute investigation involving both Paul and Mortensen, with police stating accusations were made by both parties. A video from 2023 showing a fight between them surfaced, leading to ABC canceling Paul’s season of The Bachelorette right before it was set to premiere. Paul had previously admitted to assaulting Mortensen in 2023, and the incident was addressed on the show. While the legal issues are now resolved, she still faces challenges with public perception.
