Spike Chunsoft announced that Monokuma, the iconic mascot of the Danganronpa series, will have a new voice actress in Super Danganronpa 2×2. Wasabi Mizuta will be taking on the role for the Japanese version of the game.
So, it’s a bit sad, but they had to recast Monokuma’s Japanese voice actress. The first voice, Nobuyo Ooyama, was amazing, and then Tarako took over for Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Sadly, both of them passed away this year – Tarako in March and Oayama in September. Mizuta-san is now going to be the third person to voice Monokuma, which is a tough spot to fill, considering the legacy of the previous two.
Wasabi Mizuta’s recent appointment is significant in the world of Japanese voice acting because she took over the role of Doraemon from Nobuyo Ooyama. Ooyama famously voiced Doraemon for the anime series that began in 1979, and Mizuta continued the legacy when she took on the role in 2005.
Hey everyone, just saw the trailer revealing the new Japanese voice actress for Monokuma – it’s awesome, but heads up, watch out for YouTube’s auto-dubbing messing things up! They also shared a comment from producer Shohei Sakakibara, which I’ve translated below. And the best news? Super Danganronpa 2×2 (it’ll just be called Danganronpa 2×2 over here) is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026! I can’t wait!
